Permissable?: Getting Blood Draw for Routine Test During Ramadan
Salaams Sis&Bros:
I am behind in starting a medical internship at a hospital. As a clearance, I was told I need to get my blood drawn for a measles, mumps rubella antibody titer.
I have scheduled to get my blood drawn today at 3:45 but realized that this might break my fast.
What are the facts on something routine like this? I am not diabetic and my health is not at risk, which is what is generated by a simple google search on "ramadan and blood draw".
Any information/knowledge is helpful.
Jaza-kalah Khair,

There is nothing in the Qur'an to indicate that your fasting would be void in such a case.

Re: Permissable?: Getting Blood Draw for Routine Test During Ramadan
salam wrt,
you should bear in mind that AceofHearts rejects hadith, so I doubt you should consider his answer the final verdict on your decision.
I'm unsure of the answer myself, though. Allahu alim, i hope someone can help

What she said...
You're best bet would be to get an opinion of an imam at your local Masjid or maybe check with a reputable imam online by e-mailing him.
Good luck with your internship

Anything entering your body in terms of water, nourishment, or medication invalidates your fast. So for example, when I had to get a flu shot for work last year this meant that I could not fast that day. However, diagnostic phlebotomy is not adding anything to your system, they are just taking blood out. As long as you are not receiving anesthesia or some premedication for this procedure (which you're obviously not) then this would not invalidate your fast.
