Minor Upgrades

Salams, everyone.

I'll be performing some minor upgrades later this afternoon (~2pm EST) and wanted to give a heads up that we expect a little bit of down time. It shouldn't last any more than about 15-20 mins, insh'Allah, but in a worst-case scenario: plan on having something else to do between 2pm-3pm EST.

Let me know if there are questions.

fyi, i'm done with the forums upgrades....there's a few new subscription features for social groups (that's you, FPHers) and some general bugfixes. i'll be upgrading the blogs in about 30 mins but am hoping to have virtualy zero downtime there, similar to how this one went.

you may have noticed the little red button next to the revamped "thanks" button....we now have anti-thanks.

works the same way, basically....only for the posts you hate.

another small tweak....it's now set so that you can't thank and fail the same post (sorry meraj/wheelworks, but i had to zap your tests)

one more: social groups now have their very own calendars. they respect the same privacy settings for the group, so if you're in a private group, your calendar events will be private. if it's a public group, the whole world can know.

RSVP's, etc. should all be working....FPH'ers, feel free to organize your own ISNA meetups in privacy.

I think zakk meant we should have an epic fail button next to the others we currently have ("Thanks" and "Fail"). You know, like a three or four tier "thanks" system, with "awesome" as the top rating, and "epic fail" as the lowest.

So you could have:

1. Awesome
2. Thanks
3. Fail
4. Epic Fail

hah....and the rare "thanks and fails" show themselves on your latest post, jam. i'll have to tweak the layout to make that look a little nicer. in any case, a 4-tier rating may be something to work towards but i think for now we'll keep it simple. maybe have an "awesome" or "epic fail" post of the day based on the total number of thanks/fails.

i feel like the 'thanks' and 'rep' are redundant. could we make it so like, the thanks just equals rep? er, i guess that wouldnt work bc of our rep system being such that you're limited to how many times you rep someone. what if we changed the rep point system, so like a 'thanks' is a mini rep, and it could be up to one per post, and...

ok this is too much thinking for islamica. carry on.

hah, yeah, strange to get such a strong reaction from posting a suggestion on the thanks system, but there you go - Islamica is full of all sorts.

orrr we can have customized buttons for fail and epic fail

fail = zeyeddine
epic fail = wheelworks
