Police were appealing for witnesses today following the attempted murder of a man who was doused in petrol and set on fire in east London.
The 20-year-old, who is fighting for his life in hospital, was torched as he sat in his car in Forest Gate.
It is believed the Hindi victim, who suffered 65 per cent burns in the attack, was targeted because he was dating a Muslim girlfriend.
He had just parked his car, a green Honda Prelude, in St George’s Road when he was approached by the suspect or suspects and had petrol poured over him before being set alight.
He managed to get out of the vehicle and was discovered nearby before being taken to hospital and transferred to a specialist burns unit where he remains in a critical condition.
A police spokesman said: “Officers were called to the scene at 6am last Thursday to reports of a man on fire.”
DI Sam Faulkner, from the violent crime unit at Forest Gate said: “This was a very nasty attack and the victim remains in a critical condition.
“We are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and would particularly like to hear from anyone who saw the suspect making off.”
Two men aged 20 and 21 have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and released on bail.
Today's appeal comes as a 15-year-old girl and a man in his 20s are both still critically ill after being set alight in two separate attacks in the Greater London area last weekend.

One of my good friends is Hindu. We're both planning on learning Ninjutsu later this year.

I would imagine they're against mixing among themselves as well. Hence, it could have come from both sides...what a pity regardless. People are such twisted animals. That's so sad to live like that...I hope that poor kid gets better

A Hindu girl I know of got disowned by her family for converting to Islam to marry her Muslim partner and I've read of Hindu girls being killed in India for marrying Muslim men.

Thanks for the info, as I expected the violent action could have come from either side.
I guess it will be said that it’s more a custom issue than religious one. |

That is sad but I do wonder how I would react if my daughter became Hindu to marry a Hindu or any other religion for that matter. It's all very well to say "I wouldn't raise my kids like that in the first place" but I really wouldn't know how I would react until it happens to me.

I agree that it is not permissible in Shari'ah to burn alive anyone, but will not zaanis be burned alive again and again in Hell-Fire?
So they might actually deserve it, but we believe that only Allah [swt] has the right to punish people with fire. |

Well nothing in there says they were zaanis anyway. They were dating and even if we want to suspect they were, considering Islamic law's high threshhold of convicting someone fornication, we have no legal reason to base that suspicion on. |

How do you know they were zaanis? Were there witnesses to the act?
