Do the Taliban have a central command?

Are they monolithic?

Default Re: Taliban Drugs

The Taliban has broken apart since the US destroyed their hold on Afghanistan, but this is often used as a cop-out by Taliban apologists and terrorist supporters. For example, yesterday the Taliban launched a very successful attack on a prison which resulted in over 800 prisoners escaping. This attack was certainly a successful and heroic resistance operation by the true taliban, etc etc blah blah. This is not because of any insight regarding the identity of the attackers or their affiliations, but rather because the target of the attack was something that can be described as a legitimate military target. When one of the Dadullahs had a bunch of Afghan and foreign doctors kidnapped, held hostage, and ultimately murdered, I remember very clearly that Taliban supporters on this message board were going on and on about how this action was probably done by the "new Taliban" who do dishonorable things rather than the "old Taliban" who do not. This is despite the fact that Dadullah was the equivalent of the defense minister in Mullah Omar's government and was a senior leader if not the senior leader after the Taliban had been overthrown, and it also ignored the fact that he was responsible for one of the Taliban's notorious civilian massacres as a commander during their regime

In other words it lets people support the Taliban organization without having to support, condemn, or even acknowledge most of the heinous crimes that they plan and commit.
