Stop trying to act desi. The esteem is beyond you
Maybe if you show everyone your picture on the internet, that would cross-out everything interesting about you. Just a suggestion

Probably a little bit of both.

What if I said that wearing your hijab stylishly helps you to be more confident (because you're dressed better)? What if I said it helps you to feel more hot?

Sigh.
For
the
umpteenth
time
Dressing better is not always equal to wearing flashy clothes. Every Muslim is enjoined to present themselves well, including in appearance. They are NOT enjoined to wear bold, flashy, flamboyant dresses. Incidentally, those adjectives are antonyms for modest.
As for your last question, forgive me but I cannot answer that.

I like how the hijabi at the end has an odd structure under her scarf resembling a large bird's nest

Actually whenever I wear desi clothes for weddings/Eid etc they usually have sequins and embroidery on them. Most of the time they attract positive attention, like people (mostly women) will ask,"my, where do you get such beautiful clothes?" and often it will lead to a conversation about why I cover and sometimes they'll even ask questions about Islam in general. People are rarely perverts about it.

Any time someone is a pervert about it, it means he (or she? ) will likely be a perv about it whether or not you wear flashy clothes. I've had weirdos make comments on days when I look like crap and when I'm all dressed up (for a wedding or Eid). Often men in the west usually find hijab attractive/mysterious/alluring/exotic, they just don't say anything about it....only the pervs will. The point is, whether you are wearing flashy clothes or looking like you just crawled out of a hole, nasty sickos will still make comments. The majority of comments however are positive.

hmmm...I haven't posted for the same reason Chotoo mentioned. Hundreds, if not thousands of people visit Islamica on a regular basis (some of who are not even members) so we don't even know most of the people who see our posts. I don't want some random creepo seeing my pictures. On the other hand, I have tons of pics on my facebook but that of course is set on private to ward off creepy stalkers.

Hijab making someone feel more hot? That's funny. Maybe hot temperature-wise! I wore hijab because I felt it was the right thing to do (being obligatory etc etc) and I still wear it because of that but another reason is that were I to take it off, it would feel just like going out without pants on or something .

Good Hijab, Bad Hijab? * *

Quote:
As to what fabrics, colors, or styles of clothing you use, that is up to you, as long as you have satisfied these basic requirements. It is recommended to wear a jilbab, or over-garment. However, a long, loose-fitting tunic with a long skirt also satisfies the requirement for covering the body modestly. If you look at styles in the Muslim world, you will see everything from an Arab abaya to an Iranian chador, from Afghani burqas to Malaysian skirt and tunic sets, from smart business suits to Indo-Pak shalvar qamiz. You will see a diversity of fabrics, colors, and designs. All of these can fulfill the basic requirement of hijab, which is the modest covering of the hair and body. As far as color is concerned, a lot of that is cultural. While wearing black in Iran or the Arab world is customary, in Africa and Southeast Asia it is customary to be colorful and this is not inappropriate. Diversity is one of the strengths of the Umma. I don't think it's appropriate for people to tell you that if you wear a black hijab, your hijab is good, but if you wear a hijab with flowers on it, your hijab is bad.

i think its quite obvious from the rest of the answer to the inquiry that its all cultural. what may be "flashy" in one culture may not be "flashy" in another, as bluey has already pointed out. you, however, have consistently insisted that a modest hijab is one without anything "flashy," period.

i don't understand why we're spending so much time focusing on the color of one's hijab as opposed to the mannerisms that are supposed to go hand in hand with wearing hijab generally. one can wear a "modest" hijab as you define it, completely black and lacking "flashiness," but at the same time flirt with every other guy one comes across.

clearly our priorities are out of wack.
