I am not talking about recreational usage but those who have to make a choice. Whether it is placebo, but if gets the job done, I would choose the latter over synthetic medicines (which may have much greater side-effects).

What do scholars have to say about prescription drugs vs illegal drugs?
It is difficult to phrase this question....as everyone knows, prescription drugs have numerous, sometimes deadly side effects. Marijuana has proven time and again it does not. What makes prescription drugs halal and a drug like marijuana haraam?

From what i understand it comes down to the need.
You can't just take prescription drugs for any reason, it has to be for a specific sickness that that drug will help out in.
Same goes for MJ, to help cure or to help that specific pain that is the difference.
Problem is when people take either just for pleasure.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Well obviously drug abuse is wrong, even if it is caffeine/energy drinks (there are some MAJOR caffeine addicts out there). Some people use MJ for stress and axiety relief, which means like smoking once or twice a day, usually at night or in the morning. Are stress and axiety considered medical conditions worthy of medication?

BULLCRAP!
Marijuana has been shown to have risks ranging from psychosis and mood disorders to dental problems. It may have utility in pain management, but that does not mean that it is safer than prescription meds.

There may be several factors. One, they are not scientists so they got with FDA/consensus of doctors over alienated studies that may show marijuana is beneficial. Unless the majority of doctors accept its usage, they are likely to maintain the current opinion.
Two, there is a sense that prescription drugs are supervised and controlled. Once you run out, you have to get permission for refills, etc. Whereas, smoking being unsupervised could have higher chance of abuse, addiction, and anyone with minor problems (that may be cured in other healthier way) could end up smoking. When I talk about abuse/addiction, I am merely talking about perception from non-scientists -- I don't know what the actually studies are.
If the doctors prescribe the usage of marijuana, I don't see why the scholars would object to it. does anyone know what the current position of scholars is over medicinal marijuana?
