A very, very close relative is starting his 14th year this summer. Innocent of the crime and living through hell. Though I think it a lot worse on the family than the inmate himself in this case. I went to visit him and well... I dont think I'd like to narrate my experience in detail, but I find no harm in listing some of what I saw:

-scorching heat, I felt dehydrated making my way from the screening place to the house of cells. its a large open field, no trees for shade, no fountains/water facility, and its a good 10 minute walk if you were to walk without pause, but they have several stops for more screening each of which can last anywhere from 30-40 minutes
-guards (including and especially the female) use coarse language and are very fohash when screening, the male guards are just as disgusting, stare the female visitors down, and make full hand-to-hand contact when stamping your hand (completely unnecessary)
-the place is plain/no colours, and would probably look completely barren if it werent for the guards standing around
-no fans inside the cells, much less ACing
-inmates use books to fan themselves
-10x10 ft of a cell where 6 inmates live
-the sun directly hits the cell bars and makes them hot, generating more heat
-most wear dhotis made from an especially thin cloth- they put up a cloth screen on the cell bars when one of the mates has visitors
-no form of entertainment except for books
-no running water, they fill up these huge tub/cooler thingies for the inmates to throughout the day
-1 hour of release into the yard per day
-1 hour for hygiene
-most foods are banned within the prison, leaving very little options for visitors to bring to the inmates
-disease
-little to nor medical att available
-a lot of the inmates have already completed their 'time' but are still in prison because of the screwed up judicial system--> this relative is one them
-a lot have turned to concentrate on their iman- only thing they can find peace in
-many have become hafiz of the Quran during their course in prison

These things will always and naturally happen but is nonetheless regrettable. Hopefully he can rebuild his life.
