Man Pregnant!!!

Labor of Love
Transman Thomas Beatie gives The Advocate a first-person account of how it feels to be pregnant and carrying a child for his wife and himself.
Thomas Beatie
From The Advocate March 25, 2008
To our neighbors, my wife, Nancy, and I don’t appear in the least unusual. To those in the quiet Oregon community where we live, we are viewed just as we are -- a happy couple deeply in love. Our desire to work hard, buy our first home, and start a family was nothing out of the ordinary. That is, until we decided that I would carry our child.
I am transgender, legally male, and legally married to Nancy. Unlike those in same-sex marriages, domestic partnerships, or civil unions, Nancy and I are afforded the more than 1,100 federal rights of marriage. Sterilization is not a requirement for sex reassignment, so I decided to have chest reconstruction and testosterone therapy but kept my reproductive rights. Wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire, but a human desire.
Ten years ago, when Nancy and I became a couple, the idea of us having a child was more dream than plan. I always wanted to have children. However, due to severe endometriosis 20 years ago, Nancy had to undergo a hysterectomy and is unable to carry a child. But after the success of our custom screen-printing business and a move from Hawaii to the Pacific Northwest two years ago, the timing finally seemed right. I stopped taking my bimonthly testosterone injections. It had been roughly eight years since I had my last menstrual cycle, so this wasn’t a decision that I took lightly. My body regulated itself after about four months, and I didn’t have to take any exogenous estrogen, progesterone, or fertility drugs to aid my pregnancy.
Our situation sparks legal, political, and social unknowns. We have only begun experiencing opposition from people who are upset by our situation. Doctors have discriminated against us, turning us away due to their religious beliefs. Health care professionals have refused to call me by a male pronoun or recognize Nancy as my wife. Receptionists have laughed at us. Friends and family have been unsupportive; most of Nancy’s family doesn’t even know I’m transgender.

Though I consider myself a fairly liberal person, this disturbs me beyond belief. Even though this person is only "legally" (not biologically) a man, for goodness sake, pick a team and stay there!

Re: Man Pregnant!!!
Hmm, but he didn't want to "stay there" because the couple wanted kids. I suppose it brings static gender identities into discussion. Either way, seems like huge lifestyle changes for them both

Re: Man Pregnant!!!
I didn't read the post, I just went right to the link, saw the picture and thought how really cute the guy is and how gross his stomach looks pregnant.
But then I clicked back and read the article....HOLY HELL! Totally NOT cool.

Re: Man Pregnant!!!
unnatural for a woman to have a baby?
The only thing unnatural is that she was trans.

Male fish becoming female?
Researchers worry about estrogen and pollutants in the water
By Tom Costello
Nov. 9, 2004
BOULDER, Colo. - Researchers in Colorado have made a startling discovery. Fish, apparently male, are developing female sexual organs. Scientists believe it's the result of too much estrogen in the water and they're finding estrogen in rivers across the country.

Re: Man Pregnant!!!
I don't get it. It was a woman who became a man, and then decided to have a baby? So he/she is still a woman then, right?

Re: Man Pregnant!!!
This website is fake. It's been up since my freshman year in high school.
It's an elaborate put-on by two guys from Vigil Wong ( http://www.virgilwong.com/).

Re: Man Pregnant!!!
Is it really a hoax? I'd be interested to see the proof, I hope it's not real.
But if it is real, I'm curious.. I thought transgender people can undergo operations to change their reproductive organs altogether? If she was originally a woman, then became a man (did "he-she" still have female reproductive organs?) but then became pregnant....who donated the "man-cells" to make the baby? A sperm bank? This is totally weird, sick and stupid and that website had some Godawful nasty pictures of overly-affectionate men

Re: Man Pregnant!!!
It must be a hoax. Oregon is notoriously liberal. I can't imagine any doctor discriminating against them. They would be more a medical curiousity than anything, and doctors would be soliciting the patient for business, just to be able to say that they had delivered the child of a transgender sexually reassigned person. How did he/she get pregnant anyway? There are only two choices, artificial insemination (which has to be done at a clinic) or Nancy let her husband/wife go out with some random guy. I'm betting on A.
