From what I understand, the "man" is actually a transsexual, meaning that he was born female, but so far, has undergone surgery to remove her breasts. HOWEVER, in this case, he/she still has her vagina and uterus and is taking male hormones. He/She has been legally declared a man, and is legally married to a woman (the wife). The wife is infertile, so the man decided to stop taking hormones, thereby bringing back the menstrual cycle. I'm sure they went to a sperm bank or had a friend donate some. So basically what happened is that a transsexual man reverted back to being a woman. The Advocate isn't a joke website, it's actually a well-known magazine for gays. Whether this is a hoax remains to be seen. The Virgil Wong pregnancy that Pure mentioned is a hoax, but this Beatie case is completely different and completely plausible.

Yup, he just took pills to give himself more male hormones. Then his gf found she couldn't have kids, so he stopped taking the pills to do the natural thing her body was designed to do.

I actually stumbled upon this story as I was looking into male lactation. (there was a thread on islamica...) I don't know if it's a hoax or not, since I found it on a legit website, AND it is technically possible. I just kinda never thought about a female wo took testosterone and stuff and not having a menstrual cycle for 8 years getting it back. But whatever, good luck with that people

Just taking pills isn't going to make a man capable of having a child. I don't care how much estrogen he takes, you can't magically grow a uterus.

And as for the "man" here, well s/he's not really a man... it's somewhat misleading.
