Do we need terror map of Britain?

Britain's Muslim communities are to be mapped to identify extremist hotspots.

Police and the Home Office have drawn up the plan to help them identify areas which could produce al-Qaida recruits.

The government is worried that at the moment it has very little knowledge of where Islamic extremism has taken hold in Britain.

But the plan has led to accusations that the government is spying on Britain's Muslims.

As a British Muslim, I have to say I feel disturbed by this. If areas with large Muslim populations are to be mapped as extremist hotspots, then this is effectively saying that the majority of Muslims are extremists who are a threat to national security and public safety. I think that's ridiculous, and will only serve to further alienate British Muslims.

I hope if it is to be introduced that it will be more refined and identify very small areas, or more specifically meeting places where extremist group.

These locations should I would have thought be best identified with the help of the Muslim community
