U.S.: 'Demonic' militants sent women to bomb markets in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Two mentally disabled women were strapped with explosives Friday and sent into busy Baghdad markets, where they were blown up by remote control, a top Iraqi government official said.



Iraqi soldiers secure the scene of a bombing Friday at a popular pet market in central Baghdad.

The bombs killed at least 98 people and wounded more than 200 at two popular pet markets on the holiest day of the week for Muslims, authorities said.



In both bombings, the attackers were mentally disabled women whose explosive belts were remotely detonated, Gen. Qasim Atta, spokesman for Baghdad's security plan, told state television.

Atta said the women were strapped with dynamite and ball bearings, citing members of the bomb squad. The explosives were detonated via cell phone, he said.

An Atta aide said that people referred to the bomber at central Baghdad's al-Ghazl market as the "crazy woman" and that the bomber at a second market had an unspecified birth disability.

The nationalities and identities of the women have not been released.

U.S. military officials referred to the two attacks as suicide bombings, saying both women detonated the explosive devices.

I know what you are sayng but this has been built up for a long time. The leaders of these cells never do their own dirty work, if they truly beleived in what they were doing they would be first in line to get blown up.

That's how it always is, and that's how its always been, all around the world, for all of human history. Muslim or not, the leaders are the ones who send the pawns into the fray to do the grunt work and die.

What's so disappointing about that?

I mean I could just as easily do a CNN-style hit job on Bush, Cheney or Blair & co., about how they're doing unethical things by sending kids off to their death, brainwashing them, abusing their trust, etc. Its the exact same thing being described in the OP - its just on the other side of the fence.

YOu know why these so-called Islamic Groups annoy me more? They supposedly read the same Quran I do, beleive the same things I do and yet they fail to man up when the time comes.

Personally with me its about managing my expectations. Human beings get disappointed or upset when their expectations are not met. Its a natural outcome.

If however, people were to keep their expectations low and instead consider all those possibilities which could potentially materialize, then they wouldn't be so disappointed or angry - because they would have prepped in advance for possible outcomes and by extension, would have consciously or subconsciously planned on how they would react and respond to those potential outcomes. Meaning, it wouldn't have hit them outta the blue.

Ever since the time of Prophet Muhammad, there have been Muslims of all sorts. People you could trust with your life, and people you couldn't trust with a slice of bread or a penny. The munafiqeen, the khwaarij, sabaa'ites, and more. Yes, they all read the same Qur'an as you and I do.

Off the top of my head, the various possibilities that exist in the context of the OP are as follows:

- Al-Qaeda & Co. indeed did carry out such an act as appears at face value, and that CNN is reporting it straight like it is.
- And if we're talking at face value, then in the pursuit of fairness we must also take - at face value - that al-Qaeda-in-Iraq has repeatedly said that they don't target innocent Muslims.
- Someone else did it, and Al-Qaeda was just a convenient scapegoat.
- CNN is doing a wonderful spin job - and we all know they've done that plenty of times before. So, they're not always a reliable source of information.

..... and so on. I'm sure other possibilities exist too.

I just don't let incidents like these bother me.

I see your point..i'v3e been watching Documetaries about Iraq all day..so all thats in my mind is the Innocent blood spilled each and every day there, whether they eb Shia or Sunni.. Or Kaffirs.

Its a sad situation..i knwo theres nothing I can do about ti but it still tugs at the heartstrings.

May Allah protect the oppressed, regardless of religious affiliations, may Allah bring peace in iraq and save the oppressed from the Munafiqun the Fasiqun. May Allah do justice to the Shaheeds and be just with the oppressors.
