Well, I think it does have to do with religion. Surely, a Muslim who is aware of the ruling on eating dog, and wishes to abide by it, would not eat a dog, or rip a dog apart with his teeth, no matter how dedicated a soldier he was. The fact, that these particular individuals are ripping their teeth into dogs suggests that either they aren't aware that doing this is haram, or they know but don't wish to abide by it. Either way, are they not, then, far from Islam?

I have seen pictures of them eating rabbits and cats in a similar too, but that's perfectly acceptable in my opinion.

A dog is a dirty animal and not to be eaten in almost all cultures. Whats the point of bringing "democracy" to Iraq if you don't civilise them first? This should be reported to CAIR if not PETA. I would do it myself if I cared more and wasn't so lazy

If a dog is more dirty than rabbit, it's only because if it's proximity to humans. Cats are just as dirty.

Thanks Aryan for further solidifying my intent on becoming fully vegetarian.
