Police probe TV station car crash

CHICAGO - A minivan crashed into the glass exterior wall of a downtown television studio, jarring the building and startling the anchor delivering the 10 p.m. news.

No one was injured in the Sunday night crash at Channel 7, WLS-TV.

The impact of the van hitting the studio's reinforced glass wall on State Street was heard on the air and anchor Ravi Baichwal jumped and shouted "ho."

The news show continued but a camera was turned to show viewers the damage on the outside of the wall, which ordinarily allows passersby to look into the studio.

Police said Monday they cited a 25-year-old man from Evanston, Ind., for reckless driving and having no proof of insurance. He was being questioned Monday.

Police said they weren't sure why the driver struck the studio.

WLS-TV President and General Manager Emily Barr said the crash might have been deliberate, but she couldn't be sure.
