Shia Militia behind Baghdad blast- Tried to frame Al Qaeda
'Shia militia' behind Iraq blast
A US military spokesman in Iraq has blamed Iranian-backed Shia militants for a bomb attack on a pet market in Baghdad that killed at least 13 people.
The bomb, hidden in a box of birds at the popular Ghazil market, also injured dozens on Friday.
Rear Adm Gregory Smith said four people had been arrested overnight and that confessions pointed to an Iranian-backed special groups cell.
He said the cell wanted the blame to fall on Sunni al-Qaeda militants.
Rogue elements
Adm Smith said the overnight raids and detentions were carried out by Iraqi and coalition forces.
"Based on subsequent confessions, forensics and other intelligence, the bombing was the work of an Iranian-backed special groups cell operating here in Baghdad."
The BBC's Jim Muir in the capital says this is the name generally given by the Americans to rogue elements of the Mehdi Army militia who have ignored the call by their supposed leader, Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, to halt all military activities.
Bomb attacks such as Friday's are generally linked to Sunni al-Qaeda militants.
Adm Smith said: "The group's purpose was to make it appear al-Qaeda was responsible for this attack."
He said this was to frighten the Shia community into supporting the militias as protectors.
More secure
The admiral said there was no evidence to suggest the Iranian government ordered the attack.
But he said Iran had trained, funded and equipped the groups believed to be responsible.
Tehran has regularly denied involvement in fomenting violence in Iraq. It says it is trying to stabilise its neighbour.
Levels of violence have fallen following the deployment of about 30,000 extra US troops in the Baghdad area since the start of the year.
The US troop surge has targeted both Shia militias and al-Qaeda fighters.
Our correspondent says bombings used to be a daily occurrence until recently, but are now the exception rather than the rule.
Adm Smith said the military had a "reserved optimism" about the decreased levels but he warned that militias remained a "dangerous enemy of Iraq".

They could have asked Al Qaeda to do it for them, instead of the whole conspiracy crap. Also confessions extracted the American way? How accurate can they be.

Re: Shia Militia behind Baghdad blast- Tried to frame Al Qaeda
Now that Al-Qaeda has mostly been destroyed and the sunni arabs have switched sides, the only obstacle left to stability in Iraq is these militias. They need to go after them and liquidate them all along with their leaders like Sadr. American and Iraqi commandos should be in Iran right now chasing that dude

Re: Shia Militia behind Baghdad blast- Tried to frame Al Qaeda
i think sadr is doing a fine job in standing up to the zionist-bush occupation of iraq. who says 'al qaida' even exists? all these bombings, are being conducted by none other than our own military and the zionist mossad in whose interest it is to see a destablized iraq. no wonder they are talking about partition. no wonder they bring up the kurds so much. so they can point thier fingers and say 'see these arabs cant live with nobody who isnt arab'. and this isnt conspiracy mumbo jumbo here, this is a political analysis of the situation. if i was advising bashar al assad, or king abdullah of jordan and saudi, or any other arabi leader, i would be giving him this same exact advice.

Shia criminals kill thier own and attempt to frame Sunnis!

the military believes the Shiite extremists were hoping al-Qaida in Iraq would be held responsible for the attack so Iraqis would turn to them for protection.

Re: Shia criminals kill thier own and attempt to frame Sunnis!
oh, but does it have the sensational and captivating title like mine? Ahaa, I got u there, didn't I?
No seriously, this is a big problem and has been for a long time. These criminals go about killing hundreds and the balme falls on the Mujahideen, when they are the ones who left their homes and family to PROTECT the Muslims. Why then would they be the ones who apparantly kill indiscriminatly?
Allahu Akbar, the liar is believed and the Truthful is not. These are signs leading upto the Hour.

Dude, read between the lines.
They need a reason to attack Iran.

Well if that's the case, and I don't believe it is, should we then take anything the U.S. government says? How then do we accept the market or mosque bombings in the past were conducted by Sunnis when the U.S. government is the source from which we get our news? It begs the question.

Uh, maybe we should be looking at who this supposed information is coming from...

Don't know about you, but I think I'm going to take his "objective assessment" about the situation with a pinch of salt.

Yea that's what I was referring to.
Same old stuff as always. Keep talking about the intended target country, about how they're all evil and disruptive and bellicose, etc etc. and eventually get the masses caught up in your swarm of lies so no one will object when you go invade another country, commit more terrorism, kill innocents, blah blah blah.

Exactly - why SHOULD we blv anything the US govt says? It's all about divide and rule.
First they get the Kurd's on side, then they get the Shia's on side, now they are getting the Sunni's onside. And then when it suits them they will pit us all against each other whenever it suits them best.

I never said to accept what they say point blank. Ergo my comment of "read between the lines".
