Default Pilot of plane that dropped A-bomb dies

Pilot of plane that dropped A-bomb dies - Yahoo! News
Quote:
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Paul Tibbets, who piloted the B-29 bomber Enola Gay that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, died Thursday. He was 92 and insisted almost to his dying day that he had no regrets about the mission and slept just fine at night.

Anyone else think he's in Hell right now?

But Allah's the ultimate judge. So why should we judge him?

It didn't end WW2.

The Japanese were already defeated and wanted to surrender. The US military itself didn't want to drop the bomb.

But the political leadership simply wanted to prove to the USSR that theirs [American] was the biggest, so that's why they did it.

Terrorism on a mass, unrivaled scale.

I never read that in any American history text. What I've read is that a few Japanese generals were ready to surrender, but the vast majority were not. They did not surrender after Hiroshima, only after Nagasaki. If they were ready to surrender, why not do it after Hiroshima, or why not before that?

You are correct. A tiny minority of the Japanese military wanted to surrender the rest were ready and will to fight to the death. Remember up until ww2 the Japanese mainland had never been succesfully invaded and most of the Military were willing to sacrifice everything to stop an invasion.

An invasion of the Japan would have cost MILLIONS of lives and prolonged the war.
And of course there is never any mention of the atrocities perpetrated on all the people in Asia that the Japanese invaded.

That really shouldn't matter - when it comes to this particular incident. The bomb wasn't dropped in vengence... it was dropped to end the war.

Many years earlier, entire cities had come to be considered legitimate targets by both sides - then nature of 'total war', meant that destroying population centers themselves actually proved to be militarily effective.

As for the Japanese wanting to surrender, I've heard only a few people claim that that was a unanimous movement within the Imperial government.

People try and rationalize terrorism all the time. How else do you think these so called religious people in Pakistan can sleep at night knowing that every day their suicide attacks kill innocent people. Somehow it's okay that civilians die, since police officers also manage to die. It's also somehow okay to kill the muslim security forces, becuase for whatever reason they aren't really muslim, so the prohibition against killing muslims doesn't apply to them.

There has been ample evidence since the 1960s - and more afterwards when sensitive material was declassified - that strongly conflicts with the official story of dropping the A-bomb in order to force Japan to surrender.

There's even physical evidence on the seabed not far from Pearl Harbor that has led some American historians to believe it was very probable that the USA fired the first shot, before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.

In any case, the evidence is not skimpy, its very substantial, and in the case of the A-bomb, it far outweighs whatever evidence there might be to support the official story. Its available widely on the 'net, so do yourself a favor and read up.

After that, feel free to form a more educated opinion.
