Default should sally go to pakistan or not?

this summer

SO CONFUSED.

ugh

ive been planning my next visit around my cousins wedding all this time..and it keeps screwing me over..everytime i wanna go it's like her wedding is in another 6-8 months and i dont wanna make multiple visits within a year so i hold off..and then she changes her wedding date!!! it was supposed to be dec 08 and now it's summer 09 LESSON to be learnt from this kids: DONT plan your life around stupid peoples plans

anyways

pros:

really need to get awayyyyyyyyyyy

shopping for pretty clothes and stuff

get to see relatives...most importantly, my elderly grandmother

no school/work

my cousins are members of this 'country club' with the coolest gym and swimming pool and a million things.

HALAL FOOD

HUGE reunion with my friends that i went to school with when i lived back home..everybody either moved away to a diff country or is attending university in a diff country...so everyone will be back for the summer

cons:

the political stuff scares me.. i dont know. it's so unpredictable. i dont wanna get stuck there. and im scared of arriving at the airport alone too the immigration men creep me out. and you have to bribe men to get your baggage sometimes.

ill miss summer school which could make a diff in the time i need to graduate immensely.

ill also have no job

i have to be back in the US for two weddings..july 10th and 18th weekends. and the 18th one matters the most cuz it's a good friend..and plus i wanted to do her bridal shower.. so...the dates i wanna go are gonna need some mad thinking...maybe i could go beg. of may to end of june?

if it randomly starts raining loads like it has been for the past two summers (and iwas there for one of them) then the place is going to flood and the city will be paralyzed for weeks and hence nothing will be accomplished

also people will try to get me married...which actually wont be a big deal if im going alone

gotta leave my cats behind

Don't do it. It's a trap. Or do it, but make sure you're strapped and keep your passport on you at all times.

I wouldn't go. My dadi (grandmother) keeps bugging me to come and when she learned that my husband got transferred to India, she told everyone and their mama that I'm coming in the summer. She did that despite the fact that I told her I'm NOT coming until the situation clears up which is what my dada (grandfather) strongly advised and he DEFINITELY knows what he's talking about in these situations. Even though our neighborhoods (in Defence) are relatively safe, getting there is the dangerous part because apparently the airport is a real hotspot. Plus once you're there you can't go shopping because many of these places are also dangerous. Zamzama is not good right now, or so I've heard.

Even if I did want to go I think my mom and husband both would tie me down..

I went to Karachi for two weeks just recently, and when I was there the political situation had cooled down a bit so it wasn't so bad. And it was okay alhamdulilah, attended my Cousins wedding. Just got back a few days ago.

Yeah, sally, regarding the security situation in Pakistan, just say your bismillahs and stick to safer areas as much as possible.

man, GETTING to the safer areas is the problem. Who knows, maybe one day you'll be at Defence club or Gymkhana or Creek Club, all considered "safe" as far as I know and a bomb explodes or someone storms the place with guns? What then? Didnt you hear that Saturday night somebody planted a bomb in a popular hangout for foreigners/upper class people and blew them all away?

A safe place in a place like Pakistan right now is not safe indefinitely.

Yeah, but my Aunts and Cousins were telling me that its like a cauldron waiting to burst and compared to before 'halaat' [Robberies and all] have worsened. So if anything happens, people go crazy. Otherwise its pretty normal. When I went, we were hoping nothing would happen because of the Wedding, besides Police officers coming at night and asking for food at the party hall, nothing did.
