Gelatin is Haraam if it comes from non Zabiha meat.
Quote:
Islamic Law Regarding Gelatine
If the source of Gelatine is derived from a Halaal source then its usage is permissible, whilst if the source is Haraam or Mashqook [doubtful] then it will be considered Haraam. The hide matrix or gelatine protein is basically a piece of skin, which is hydrollised, washed, melted and extracted, purified, evaporated, sterilised, chilled, dried and granulated for further shelf life and easy use. Alkaline treatment tends to remove amide groups present on certain amino acid residues on the collagen protein chains resulting in a lowering of the isoelectric point and consequently an alteration not a transformation of the chemical and physical properties of the protein occurs. Despite the above method of changing a raw product into gelatine under tremendous chemical pressure still retains much of its chemical equation. The collagen triple helix structure is lost during this procedure but the resultant Gelatine product retains the original coil structure. The aspect of Tabdeel-e-Mahiyyat does not take place.

Hodja picked up a bunch of grapes, cut it up into pieces and gave each child a piece.
"You have so much, but you gave us so little," the children complained.
"There is no difference whether you have a basketful or a small piece. They all taste the same," Hodja remarked.

That's not pretentious. Non-zabihah meat is non-halal meat.

This is the view of the Scholars of the 4 madhaabs.
Non Zabiha meat is Haraam unless eaten in dire need (ie starvation)
Non-Muslims' Meat Claims & Non-Zabiha Meat...*
Eating non-zabiha meat for a college student with limited options

Re: "Post your pictures" thread
not to hijack yet another thread but..
to a lot of muslims non zabiha does not equal haraam. and you can find scholarly backing for it as well, so let's try to avoid calling something haraam when it has a difference of opinion.

His fmaily may have gone home or he may ahve a HAalal store that stocks them. I get care packages or visit Halal food stores to get Halaal treats. I've often found Halaal Skittles and such..sorry to derail the thread...just wanted to make that clear..

Re: "Post your pictures" thread
I have a recent picture of me with a beard and a Salwar Kameez, but I think I already posted entirely too many pictures of me.

I haven't shaved for 3 months when I took this pic. My beard is just creeping along very slowly, but mashallah it's finally visible on camera.
Also, I know my room is so messy it's basically a biohazard.
one more "also"; does the salwar kameez look a little big?

Ahhh look how happy you are. The only other pictures you seem this happy in is when you're wearing your ninja suit.
