Salams all,

My parents moved cross-country to San Diego over the summer. As you may know, huge wildfires are sweeping across southern California right now. Unfortunately for us, one of the larger ones is about 15 miles from our new house - my parents have been in that home less than a month, they're still unpacking. With the terrible winds and the nature of fires, I'm very concerned for them. Please, remember them in your duas. Thanks.

Thank you for the thoughts. It's getting really scary now. They're just outside the mandatory evacuation zone and they've decided to leave.

Bro you have my prayers. I just heard from one of best mates that her husband has been told to evacuate the family so what you're saying is really close to home.

wildfires soooo suck! i can't imagine what they must be going through... the weather is awful here right now... you can't go outside without being bombarded by ash/dust/smoke... its really hard to breathe outside of the house, and even inside if you forget and leave a window open du'aas for your family insha'allah they'll be fine

Hope everything is going well with your parents Rab. Inshallah they will be safe and get through this scary patch without any trouble. Keep us posted!

They left the area this evening. My dad was going to go up way north of Santa Barbara for work today anyway, so he just took my mom and brother with him. My brother's school is already cancelled for tomorrow, and even that is right in the path of the fire.

The evacuation makes no sense. My parents live on top of a hill which has probably 1000+ homes. There are two major roads on and off the hill, and both of them start within the evacuation zone. So if those get blocked somehow, our neighbors are (excuse the language) screwed. The silliest part is that the areas where those two roads open up are already evacuated.

Actually, thinking about it, there may be one "back road" out, but potentially evacuating 1000+ families via one road doesn't sound easy.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I'm on the east coast, so I'll be going to bed soon, but I'll try to keep everyone updated.

My parents got back home from out of town on Tuesday night to find a "reverse 911" message on their answering machine. Luckily, the evacuation order had already been cancelled for their area by that time, but evidently, our house was close enough at some point for the authorities to be concerned. No imminent danger since then.

Alhamdulillah, so far, so good for us.
