Madras, India September 18: Next time you spot the profile of an IAS groom or a software professional working abroad on a matrimonial portal, better check out the credentials.
Else, you could end up entering into wedlock with a much-married man like 31-year old Liyakath Ali Khan, arrested on Monday for allegedly duping several women by creating false online profiles.
Khan had married three women, posing as an IAS officer and a software professional from London, using assumed names. This, in addition, to his first marriage with Kshatriya Shabana. Khan had also duped 35 other women by promising to marry them and later vanishing with their money.
The Pulianthope police in North Chennai stumbled upon the love exploits Khan who had earlier been jailed in Tiruchy for posting nude pictures of women on the Internet when they arrested him for cheating a man Vivekanandan from Erode.
Vivekanandan alleged that Sudhakar (as Khan was known to him) had duped him by promising an engineering college seat for his son and collected Rs 50,000. Incidentally, Vivekanandan had come in contact with Khan when the latter had come to see his niece to discuss a marriage proposal.
On probing further, the police learnt that Khan had created multiple profiles on a popular matrimony portal looking for targets.
