Re: Awkward Rishta Meeting Thread
this one guy was talking about how he thought chinese babies were really really cute. except..instead of saying 'chinese babies have such an adorable look to them' he accidentally said 'they have such an appealing look to them'

oki oki... here's one..
A couple years back, a family member referred this guy to me. I never met him, but we talked on the phone once. From the beginning I already knew he was not my type. He was a nice guy and all, but not my type. It seemed like he was genuinely interested in me so I felt bad.
Then I asked him how old he was (I was just 20 at the time)....
Him: "Well, Salika, you know Ayesha was so young when she married the Prophet (peace be upon him), so age, you know, it doesn't mean anything....."
Me: Ok, so then... how old are you?
Him: Well, I'm 34..
The whole Ayesha thing, I dunno... so I politely told him it wasn't going to work (the age was just one factor).
So I guess that's kind of awkward.

Re: Awkward Rishta Meeting Thread
A family friend was trying to match make between my sister and a guy, and she told my sister to check the guy out at an upcoming wedding. He ended up sitting at the table next to us, and when the bride and her father danced to Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me," we look over to find him singing from the bottom of his heart. And throughout the entire song he kept looking at my sister and singing the song like it would impress her.
I think he was just trying to show off his English language skills.

Ubay ibn Kaab (ra): That is taqwa.

Re: Awkward Rishta Meeting Thread
one time this fobby guy came over wearing dress shoes(the shiney kind) under jeans. it was grossss.
then there was this guy..my parents had turned him down already(altho it was a yes from my side) but he wanted a chance to convince them, so my mom allowed him to come over. This was his chance to win them over. It was me, him and my mom sitting in our living room, and my mom said "ok...so what did you want to talk to me about?" and I guess he was REALLY nervous because he opened his mouth and nothing came out...like no sound. literally, there was a few minutes where we just stared at him cuz nothing was ocming out of his mouth even though he was trying. I felt sooo bad for him...mashallah it must have taken a lot to do that tho..i cant imagine knowing youre going to get rejected and then still putting urself out there. some brothers are awesome

Re: Awkward Rishta Meeting Thread
I had a family come to see me once where the auntie demanded to see my diplomas. Like she wanted to take them out of the frames and examine them for watermarks or something. My parents let her see them in the frames but that's it. Her son asked me the value of houses in my parents' neighborhood and I said I didn't know. That was fun......

Haha did you demand to ask to see all the sons diplomas too? (you also should have asked him if he made over $200k per annum )
