Re: Guys.. would you marry..
I was thinking about Peace Corps, that's awesome to know that might = loan forgiveness inshallah . I've tried to be really careful thus far, so really I don't have more than $1500 in loans right now but I have a feeling that this coming year won't be the same

Wow that's awesome! I've heard it's the same in a few other countries too but the condition is that you have to be a native of the country.

Re: Guys.. would you marry..
I heard if you do a year with one of those programs like City Year, they pay the interest. I thought about it at one point, then remembered I don't like people.
I wouldn't want my husband to pay my debts. I got them on my own before he got there. I mean, he can help if he wants, but I won't make him do it.

Re: Guys.. would you marry..
If you marry the daughter of a rich doctor/lawyer/indian chief, she probably didn't take out loans so you wouldn't have to pay

Re: Guys.. would you marry..
If I were to do that, especially if it were an outrageous amount, we'd definitely be making a pre-marital agreement of our roles. I wouldn't ever be doing the dishes in that kind of relationship, for example. I may not have married a maid, but she didn't marry an ATM either.

Salaams
I've yet to comprehend how understandable guys are..they are not willing to pay her debts, they rather have her stay at home, not work..and few years down the road, if the things don't work out between them, he'll take whats his this includes all of his income, house etc...she will not have a penny for herself. [see marriage contract]. subhaAllah..

the most ironic thing is..sometimes persistent comments made on islamica are the inner voice/thoughts of many guys.. who think like that, but may not express it (in real world)..but al hamdoulilah I know for a fact..not all guys are like that..

I can assure you most of the guys on Islamica that have been around for a few years [single or not] are the type who would pay off their wife's debts either fully or partially. Most guys I know are fairly self-less that way. Most guys are aware of their responsibility of being the bread-winner and they take that responsibility without any complaints.

i guess..it really depends on the guy..and the resources he has available to him..nothingless, we'll have to shoulder our own responsibilities regardless of our gender..Allahu Alim.
