But thats not exactly the word 'religious' entails in true sense of the word. It means someone with a transformed heart with love of Allah. He leads by example, not force. He imposes Islam on himself, not others. hes neither proud nor boastful, but gentle and well mannered. he cares about others more than he cares about himself. As Maulana Rumi once said, "divine love transforms silver into gold", so people who went through such a transformation have become religious in true sense of the word. and when you meet such people and spend some time with them, you fall in love with their personality regardless of your level of relgiousness.

I think you don't understand. a very religious man would want me to live to his standards. a very religious man would not be happy with my uncovered hair and fitted clothing. those are things I neither want to change nor debate over.

I understand where you're coming from...but i think you missed the point. you seem to have a preconvinced (mostly negative) image of what "very religious" people are like. all i am saying is that theres not a single description of a "very religious" man/woman. i have a "very religious" cousin, bearded, prays 5x, i never seen anyone that wakes up for tahhajud everyday like him. yet neither his wife nor daughters wear hijab - he just never imposed his views on them...and hes probably the coolest cousin to hang out with.

the point is that there's no one way to describe ''very religious'' people...just as you cant describe ''very liberal'' or ''very conservative'' people with a single definition.

yeah um, im single and never been engaged or married but the #1 thing most married couples stress? don't go into a marriage expecting someone to change.

I certainly wouldn't encourage anyone "expecting" to change their spouse, but your goal is to please your spouse and if there's something about you that s/he finds so repugnant that you are asked to change, especially if it's something small like smacking your lips or something, it would behoove not only the relationship but also the individual to change.
