Yeah, it's a Bengali phrase for brother-in-law.

Literally, "groom-brother".

This is sick and twisted, I've never heard of a case like this, even a suspected case.

My husband has only one brother and he is younger. Out of all my husband's siblings, I am closest to my brother in law because he is the most decent, friendly and doesn't engage in backstabbing behavior. He and I can talk for hours on end and joke about random things, he is like the little brother I never had growing up (he is my younger sister's age). We have the same taste in movies, same views on a lot of things, similar interests but despite all this I always observe hijab in front of him, no exceptions, and have never had physical contact, not even a handshake because he knows I am very strict about this. I don't think I've ever even sat on the same couch as him! Suggesting anything similar to the OP is sickening!

As for my husband and my little sister, it's a typical annoying big brother/annoying little sister relationship. They pick on each other all the time, smack each other when the other's not looking and shove ice down one another's backs.

Neither my brother in law nor my sister are married so I don't have a bhabi yet and my husband doesn't have a whatever-his-SIL's-husband-is-called.

My bro-in-law is old, so he treats me like his dorky little sister (naw, it's all good)

actually if you read up on some hadiths, brother-in-laws are specifically mentioned in terms similar to the OP. I'll find and post them iA .

What are you talking about? I'm sorry but I don't care. All I'm saying is, I have never heard of this in "asian" families, not even as a suspected case. I gave my relationship with my BIL as an example and said that the OP scenario would be sickening to think of. I think a lot of married girls in the US have this type of relationship with their brother-in-law...it's friendly but still distant. The OP made it sound like having children with your BIL was a problem in the community when I really think it's not.

One time he teased me a little too much, and I got upset. My sister made him buy me chocolate ice cream

hahahhaa that happens with my husband and sister a lot. They take it too far with each other, then one sulks and stomps around (usually my sister) and the other says "well all i said was ____ and why does he/she have to be so stupid and get angry?" Then they get over it by dinner time and the bickering and teasing begins again

Perhaps you've not seen this as a common practice... but in South Asia, a lot of vices are not widely publicised. How many abortions have you "heard" of? Find a doctor friend and he/she'll tell you what they see in the society
