Nearly all the backwards mentalities you mentioned that occur in India occur to some extent in the Western world. We have sexual exploitation/abuse of women & children, the elderly, even pets. We also have people who believe in magic, but they're respected for their beliefs and allowed to live free lives (for the most part). They're called Wiccans. Marraige between 2 first cousins is against the law, but rape between family members and of children is common. We've got Mormons whom everyone considers to be backwards people. Their pastors or whatever they're called are known to force young girls into marriage with older men for the sake of 'God'. All this goes on despite the fact that our legal system is much, MUCH more strict than Indias or any other 'backward' country's. A bit embarrassing, don't you think?
