Great. A 3-minute video about circumcision in the Quran, yet no verse was supplied that directly linked to it.

Circumcision is a Sunnah in Islam:
"The practices related to Fitrah are five: circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, trimming the moustache, cutting the nails and removing the hair of the armpits." (Related by Bukhari, al-Muwatta & the Group)

The prophet (s.a.w.) said: "The Prophet Ibrahim circumcised himself when he was eighty years old and he circumcised himself with an adze." (Related by Bukhari, Muslim & Ahmad.)

"Circumcision is Sunnah for men, a noble action for women" (Related by Ahmad & al-Bayhaq)

Traumatic experience in babies? It's painful, yes, but nobody remembers their circumcision experience.

Your video is a mockery of the tradition of the Prophet (saws). If you don't want your family to follow it, fine, but don't speak out against it, as this is a form of mockery and contempt. Scholars argue that this takes one out of the fold of Islam.

Another argument put forward is 'why do we cut our hair or fingernails then'? Fingernails and hair are quite different. They are not living flesh with full blood circulation and receptive sensors. Hair and fingernails were 'designed' to continuously grow and to be cut regularly - this is not the case with the foreskin. The male foreskin performs many useful designed functions that can only be served by being there. Because these functions are important, Allah designed the male human in this way - again because it is 'better' to have the foreskin, Allah has designed it in the design of male humans - as He states, He is the Best of all Creators (23:14). He is the one who has designed all human beings, male and female, perfectly in the womb.

So becuase he may not remember later its ok to have a butchers at his penis and cause excruciating pain? Circumcising is not a 'fifteen minutes and done' job. The injection required for anaesthesia has to be applied to the tip of the penis where it is most sensitive. Even with anaesthesia applied the procedure is painful. As the anaesthesia dies, the child begins to experience excruciating pain which lasts many days and takes weeks to heal. This can be coupled with bleeding and infection to the wound. A baby experiences all these sensations. One of the ill-found mentality of ignorant parents not acquainted with the Qur'an is them thinking baby-circumcision is some how more preferable to circumcision on older boys who can talk. Therefore, many parents circumcise their perfectly healthy baby immediately following birth or in his baby days. The fact is that, this makes no difference to the baby - the pain coupled with the trauma of arms and legs strapped down against his persistent crying is all experienced by a living soul. The baby will feel these anguishes just like an adult. The fact that he cannot express his pain in words does not make any difference in reality. The only people it benefits are the parents who some how calm themselves by the fact that the baby cannot express his pain - a form of deep ignorance it is. The fact that the baby will not recall the event as he grows up also means nothing to the baby who will go through the traumatic experience.

Recent studies have also found that a baby's nervous system is highly developed and is more receptive to pain than an adult.

What with Trenty boy saying that the Qur'an is full of a bunch of stories and you saying that the Qur'an should be the only text followed in Islam I think Islamica has successfully attracted all extremes of the spectrum

Birth is a horribly traumatic experience. Poor baby has to be squeezed and pushed out an opening way to small. They cry and scream, are all bruised from the experience, the entire skull has to deform itself in the process. Sometimes they get stuck, their shoulders get dislocated, collarbones get broken etc. Then once you come out you're naked and cold in a room full of strangers. Some of those strangers stick crap up your nose to suck stuff out, they poke your heal to check your blood sugar multiple times, shove thermometers up your butt. The trauma doesn't stop there. You're super hungry and you get shoved onto this enormous breast, but all you get is colostrum, and sucking colostrum from the breast is like sucking an extra thick milk shake through one of those plastic coffee stirers.

In the US, circumcision happens in the first few days of life. Getting a circumcision is like going out for Ice Cream on a pleasant sunny day compared to the birthing process.

Let's just not give birth, it's too traumatic for babies.

I'll repeat the same thing here that I've asked numerous times (usually when one of these threads pops up) and which no one from the anti-hadith camp has yet attempted to answer:

If everything we need to know about Islam is in the Qur'an, and indeed Islam can be perfectly understood simply by reading the Qur'an, then why did the Prophet teach? Why did he show Muslims how to pray, perform Hujj, and speak to them about how to treat their wives and neighbors? If the Prophet had nothing to offer to believers beyond the Revelation itself, then why DID he offer knowledge?

difference though is that babies are meant to be birthed that way because god designed our bodies to be perfectly suited for this task (and you don't always have to agree to the multiple hospital pricks/prods/separation immediately unless there's a true medical need, you can always put your baby skin-to-skin first) and modern circumcisions *are* a bit traumatic and too cold and surgical for a newly born baby. honestly, i think the jews have it right doing it with a mohel and not strapping down the baby in those horrible looking molds without the parents in the room (because most don't want to watch).. the jewish way seems like it's much faster and gentler route.
ETA: instead of the jewish way, perhaps i should have said a more traditional, gentle circumcision rather than the hospital model.
