Gosh, I thought it was only chicks who thought that romance used to be so much better than it is now!

We're actually called morons and retards but don't worry, since so many people went to Melbourne for the Footy Grand Final this weekend, the collective IQ has gone up.
I just got back from Melbourne yesterday so yeah I'm feeling pretty smart today.

Re: Obsession to 18th century romance
You can never turn a fob into a real footy fan. After four years in this country, this was the first season when I actually watched some of the games and new what the rules were. Have to admit it's more interesting than I thought. The first time I saw it , I was like wtf is this??
Oh and I didn't go to Melbourne for the match. Just cuz it was the long weekend. But I'm so glad now we didn't actually go to the city to watch it and just stayed at home.

Ohhh! Velcome velcome!! Just give yourself time...it's an awesome game but yeah I can imagine that it would be a bit confusing the first time you see it! Before you know it, you'll be hollering "IN THE BACK" with the best of them! Just pick a decent team to support though eh? Gotta find out who everyone hates before you commit!
So where do you hail from? I've found that folks from soccer countries generally think aussie rules is stupid...I feel the same way about soccer!
Hmm...this is so not 18th century romance...

Re: Obsession to 18th century romance
Pakistan. But I've always been a soccer fan... and I've always called it football. The real kind.
As for the this game, I'm getting to know it better. I accurately predicted that Geelong was gonna win
Any suggestions on who to back? Collingwood and Port are out of the question. Don't like the Eagles cuz I don't like Ben Cousins.
18th century romance is history anyway.

You don't have to like Ben Cousins to like the Eagles...though I do appreciate his aesthetic value ofcourse ahem, anyhow...glad to see that you've already eliminated the two most hated teams in the comp! Essendon and Carlton are always popular choices though if you want a team that has some chance of being successful don't choose Carlton - they're going through a rough patch at the mo though they should get better cos they have some good kids. Oh and Essendon has the added bonus of being the home of Bachar Houli - our first Muslim AFL player.Woohoo!! The Kangaroos are pretty cool too.. Oh, what the hell, anybody will do..it just makes it a more complete experience to have a team to barrack for!
Soccer shmocker...what a bunch of wussies - they hit the turf and roll around bawling at the slightest thing..toughen up sunshine!

Um, haven't you ever heard of 'Dangerous Liaisons'? Laclos, Balzac, Flaubert, Stendhal et al? Or, what about Richardson and Fielding? I think the last word I'd use to decribe them is 'noble'. Exciting, yes. A hell of a story, oh yes. Noble? I don't think so. I don't even think it ever has been...Guinevere cheated on Arthur. Isolde cheated on Marke. Helen of Troy ran away from Menelaus with her fancy-man. The only noble thing about it is the protagonists' titles.

Re: Obsession to 18th century romance
Don't people read books anymore? My favourite romantic novel (well production) has to be Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew". Read it and you'll see why

It's a great play, and has been done over many many times. The latest remake I saw was "10 things I hate about you" which was nice fluff. It's difficult to read Shakespearian English though, especially for Americans. You have to remember that a few years back they released a new version of the Bible specifically for Americans, becuase the King James Version was just too hard for them to read.

Never had a problem with KJV. The only person I knew to have one was my philosophy teacher. He felt the edition had stripped the poetic prose from the bible and so preferred the original latin and greek texts.
Did the American version have words like "ya'll", and replace the -er's with -a"?
