Calcutta, India: Indian State West Bengal Chief Minister (State Governer) Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was forced to order a judicial probe into mysterious death of a Muslim man Rizwan who married a Hindu girl Priyanka, the daughter of industrialist, Ashok Todi

Rizwan's family has been alleging that two senior police officers were threatening him with dire consequences after he married Priyanka.

Rizwan, a teacher at a multimedia academy, was found dead on railway tracks on the outskirts of Calcutta, India last week.

He had earlier alleged that top officers of Calcutta City Police were pressuring him to end his marriage with Priyanka.

His relatives allege that the industrialist exerted his influence in the police to separate the couple. Rizwan had married 23-year-old Priyanka on August 18.

“My older brother and uncle were called three times to the Lal Bazaar (Red Market) police station and threatened. Even Rizwan was threatened so that he would leave Priyanka Todi and she could go back to her house,” says Rizwan’s brother Minal Ur Rahman.

Finally, the state government acknowledged the demand for an inquiry into the suspicious death by someone outside the state police.

The single-judge inquiry follows allegations of direct involvement of top brass of Calcutta Police in the death. “I received information from different sources from government sources, from political sources and I decided it should go for a judicial enquiry,” Bhattacharjee said.

Though Todi was summoned by the CID for interrogation on Thursday, no arrest has been made so far.

Rizwan-ur-Rehman's death had sparked off street protests in Calcutta last week, with angry people taking to streets and going on an rampage.

How do you know that for certain. Besides there have been cases in the past where Muslims not kaffirs have done the killings for that very reason.

...saying it's only kaffirs that killed him is like saying it's only muslims participating in the protests over that killing. wakeup man.

because no muslim will kill a man for this, because in Indian culture, regardless if you are Muslim or Hindu, the children will be raised according to the father's faith. If you had read the news item, or even bothered to watch the video, you will see that the girl's father was a rich industrialist and had the cops harrass him to the point where they killed him. fake police set-up's of muslims, where they end up dead is nothing new in India.

But then again, if such killings were all too common, why did he get himself into this in the first place? You even see it in movies, don't you? Not that I watch many, but I vaguely remember seeing a couple of Hindi movies with the same plot: poor boy marries rich girl and father sends people to kill the boy with the blessings of the police force.

If a rich Industrialist Hindu father is unhappy with his daughter's marriage, the storyline becomes predictable after that.

I don't want to sound sarcastic or insensitive, and Allah knows I'm not, but I can't resist saying this: unlike Hindi movies, no identical, unrelated twin will surface somehow and help the girl solve the mystery of her husband's death, and then of course marry her at the end. It just goes to show that movies are not entirely fictional. Or maybe people are just copying these movies? God knows.

And really, what's wrong with Muslim girls? Is there a shortage of marriageable Muslim girls in India? Or is the grass simply greener on the other side?

i think the problem is that because of all that bollywood, everyone wants a great bollywood romance in thier life. and since its not easy to pull it off with someone of your faith, without your community finding out, its alot easier to get away with that with someone of a different community and faith.

I think we should look at the following Verse, in which case marrying a Hindu is permissable:

"The adulterer or a fornicator is only fit to marry a like female or an idolatress; and the adulteress or a fornicatress is only fit to marry a like male, or an idolator." [Qur'an 24:3]

CID records Priyanka's statement

Calcutta, India September 29: Priyanka, the wife of graphic designer, Rizwanur Rehman, whose body was found near a railway track on Saturday last, told the CID today that she had wanted to stay with her husband.

Priyanka told a CID team that she was in South India when her husband Rehman died and learnt about his death only after returning to Calcutta, Director General of Police (CID) Bhupinder Singh told reporters here.

She also did not speak against her family or the police, he said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee yesterday ordered a judicial probe into mysterious death of Rehman, who was allegedly threatened by two senior police officials for marrying Priyanka, a Hindu girl.

On her condition, Singh said: "She is traumatised at present and not in a position to be interrogated. We have recorded what she has said. We didn't cross examine her. She will be examined later."

Asked whether she was pressurised by the police or her family to part with her husband, Singh said, "She only spoke about her relationship with Rehman and said she wanted to stay with him."

"We find both the statement, Rizwan gave to a human rights organisation and Priyanka's corroborate each other," he said.

Priyanka's uncle Pradip Todi was also questioned by the CID at Bhawani Bhawan today.

"There are some discrepancies between the statements of Priyanka's father Ashok Todi and her uncle. We are examining the statements and if needed we will call them again," Singh said.
