SYDNEY (Reuters) - An Australian man has found himself in trouble after calling police to report that his house had been broken into and some of his cannabis plants stolen.

The 35-year-old man from the southern city of Adelaide called police in the early hours of Tuesday after being woken by intruders who smashed a window and made off with portions of the plants.

Police were unable to locate the burglars but after searching the house, found six cannabis plants in the bedrooms. The man was arrested and charged with drug offences, South Australian state police said in a statement.

"Members of the public are reminded that the growing of cannabis is not only illegal but can also attract other criminal activity such home break-ins and assaults," the statement said.

My sister was dating a pot head once. He came over to our house, and kept just staring at the butter on the table.

"Dude, that butter is really yellow" he says

"Yes, butter is usually yellow, especially when it's margarine" I replied

STAMFORD, CT (AP) -- Stamford police say they've arrested a Bridgeport man who posted an ad on the Internet selling high grade marijuana.

Police say 24-year-old Steven Zahorsky posted the advertisement on Craigslist.org, boasting about the ``A plus'' marijuana he had for sale.

Stamford police e-mailed the alleged dealer, claiming to be a painting crew interested in buying drugs during a work break.

Police say Zahorsky agreed to sell three-quarters of an ounce of marijuana at the Interstate 95 rest area off Exit 13. Police say an undercover officer paid $320 in cash for the drug. Police then arrested Zahorsky.

Police say a search of his apartment turned up three bags of marijuana and one bag of hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Yeah, of course. Drinking alcohol in moderation isn't all that harmful.

It can become very addictive. Also, the "safer" version, if you can call it that, is the pure weed from the cannabis plant. These days the weed has loads of other stuff mixed in it (like PCP and heroin), which can have much more serious effects.

Yes, but the D.A.R.E. officer who came to our school to promote drug abstinence told us that it was better to smoke pot than to drink, becuase pot smokers drive about 5 miles an hour, and don't kill people when they drive.

Brain Scans Show Negative Effects of Cannabis Consumption

Two professors at London's Institute of Psychiatry have conducted research on how heavy consumption of cannabis may affect brain functions, and have produced brain scans that aim to prove how the drug can cause psychosis and schizophrenia in a small percentage of the population that smoke marijuana regularly.

Scientists, health advocates and doctors have been conducting research into the effects of cannabis for decades. The 1936 cult classic "Reefer Madness" is an propaganda tale of harmful marijuana addiction, in which users become the equivalent of dangerous maniacs bent on violence, sex and mayhem after one puff of a marijuana cigarette. A large variety of early films shown in school also aimed to teach children about the dangerous effects of smoking marijuana. The films are laughable by today's standards, but while the effects of smoking marijuana in these films may have been wildly exaggerated, there is still no shortage of concern over the effects of frequent cannabis consumption.

Professor Philip McGuire and Zerrin Atakan used MRIs to show that patients who had received a dose of the active cannabis compound tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly referred to as THC, exhibited reduced brain function in an area associated with emotional and behavioral control and response

Professor Philip McGuire says that the THC acts as an inhibitor, in effect switching off that particular area of the brain, the inferior frontal cortex brain region, which results in increased paranoia.

The professors, like many others, are growing increasingly concerned about the stronger marijuana available today, also known as skunk. Skunk marijuana is a new variety of cannabis cultivated to produce the highest amount of THC possible, in effect doubling the amount of THC found in marijuana only a short time ago.
