It certainly shows how blind belief can only be destructive for a human being.
You can say the same thing about any number of cultural or religious practices. It's called an ethnocentric attitude. They live the life the way they want and they crossed some boundaries (like child abuse and rape) and the authorities rightfully stepped in. But how do we know how much of it is truth and how much is media propaganda ("oh those damn polygamists!" )??
If that is how they want to live, then let them (after going through proper investigation to protect the children etc of course)

okay well, this woman has just revealed that she wanted to be a paedetrician but was made to marry a 50 year old. That women continuously beat their children instead of giving them love and affection. Should that just have been continued because that's the way they live? What if they were, hypothetically, practising homosexuality or female circumcision? Would you be forgiving then too?

Am I not making myself clear? I said.. the authorities were justified in coming and investigating and removing potentially abused children but perhaps beyond that the media is blowing it out of proportion. Take everything with a grain of salt when it comes from sources we KNOW are biased.

I appreciate that media services can report on issues to get attention/money but in this case, i don't think there was anything beneficial about the group and that leaving them to their own work for the sake of personal privacy would only breed more violence/neglect/oppression because of the ethos of the group itself.

I wouldn't get so troubled about it, it's only a discussion. I'm not trying to argue or insult you. You said that a lot of women must feel okay with how they're treated, i took that as an acceptance that it should carry on if that's what they wanted. Apologies for misunderstanding you
