Default The Pet[s] Thread

AsSalamu' Alaykum,

So what pets do you have?

Oki, so I just found out over the weekend that my husband wants a turtle, an anole lizard, a fish tank, and a frog.

I, on the other hand, am perfectly happy with a dark coat mackerel tabby kitten and that's it.

I wouldn't mind a fish tank but would have a lid over so that cat won't feast upon them. I can probably, PROBABLY, be able to tolerate having a turtle even though I think they are disease infested. I wouldn't touch it and once the babies start popping out the little critter will have to be let loose because I don't want it around the kids. But a frog? A freakin lizard? Uuuugh. I am trying so hard to get this apartment to be an almost easy transition for him/us and I'm trying to making compromises on his likes/dislikes but I can not throw down with a frog and a lizard. What if that lizard got loose in the house?

haramoobobi, hahaha that was hilarious...and SO random

Right now I have a cockatiel, his name is Mowi. He's technically my sister's but has kind of become both of ours since we share in responsibilities. I'd have a cat right now if it weren't for my roommates being terrified of them.

I'm a huge animal person, I LOVE animals but for various reasons havent been able to have many pets after moving to the US. In the US I have only had a dog and a tiny salamander that died when I accidentally dropped a quarter in his tank .

In pakistan I had dogs (dalmations, great danes and befriended stray ones), rescued stray cats/kittens, rabbits, a peacock, pigeons, ducks, geese, fish, chickens and a mean, vicious rooster that slept in our lemon tree....cant remember anything else right now but I might later. Of course these were not all at once I've always wanted a horse and some type of monkey. I like deer too. I grew up riding horses and that's one animal that I've never had that I really really want and love.

here's Mowi eating a crouton

fiance likes to say he's getting a pet tarantula when we get married...he knows I hate spiders. I always tell him that he and the tarantula can live next-door.

anyway, your man doesn't NEED 4 pets. tell him to pick one (that can be kept in a tank).

assalamu alaykum

mr.zzze was going to surprise me with a tortoise i figured what he was doing and put a stop to it, tho i didnt know it was going to be a tortoise. They're quite boring creature and I'd probably step on it

Neither of us want pets, alhamdulilah.

Shadha: I agree with displaced, those are too many pets. And will he be looking after them, cleaning their cages etc? (they WILL have cages, right?) you're scared of them, so make it clear to him that you looking after them is not an option due to fear and see what he says.

Nah, I know he'll be responsible and clean up their cages and care for them etc. The number of them doesn't get to me at all- they are all tiny and don't require much care but it's WHAT TYPE that gets me.

I say this but watch me be the one to surprise him and buy them for him.

AHAHAHAHAHA@ zzze...what were you going to do with a tortoise?

what would happen if/when you have kids tho? seems a bit dangerous.

i dont know what i'd do w a tortoise, feed it whatevers left over from our salads? He said a tortoise is cute, easy to care for, won't pee everywhere, won't leave hairs around and won't die anytime soon, if taken care of. A tortoise is cute, but I know i'd tep on it. I've stepped on one our ex-rabbit's baby leg and it cried

haha reminds me of when I was a kid... We brought home frogs, lizards, turtles, tadpoles, injured birds, caterpillars, fireflies, puppies, kittens etc. One time me and my sister brought home and hid a mouse, we named him Mickey... My mom went ballistic when she found out
