Re: The Pet[s] Thread
assalamu alaykum
that's horrible, no animals (bar snakes, and such things) should live in cages. Even my rabbit lived in our home most of the time. She wasn't house trained but her poop wasn't mushy, so it's all good. She was so cute and had three sets of babies. We had to give them all away but at one point there were like 20 rabbits running around our big garden, awww

Re: The Pet[s] Thread
I don't mind snakes...I could tolerate a snake in a tank, or a frog or lizard. no spiders, though.

Re: The Pet[s] Thread
yea spiders are my arch nemesis,
the worst is when your trying to go to sleep,
but you can still kinda see that spider in the corner ceiling of the room,
just hanging out waiting for you to go to sleep...

Where else would you put a snake, lizard, tarantula, or frog? Or ants?
And fish belong in tanks too. I think hamsters/guinea pigs/mice/rats belong in cages too. You can't let them run around.
Birds too, to some extent. Ours were caged sometimes, but they were out most of the time too... that's why one flew away, heh.
Rabbits... ours were in the backyard most of the time, but sometimes they were in a cage. Rabbits poop and breed way too much... that's why I wouldn't want any again.

Re: The Pet[s] Thread
is anybody a bird expert here? i got a bird last week (a parrotlet) and she still hates my guts. i realize it's going to take time, but she *still* thinks i'm going to reach into her cage and grab her every time i come near. parrotlets are supposed to be people-birds. i know it'll take a while for her to get acclimated, and i'm doing things like letting her out of her cage (technically you're supposed to pick them up and take them out every time, but she flies around so violently when i try to do that that i just let her come out on her own sometimes), but is there anybody here who started with a really mean bird at first (and it changed to be nicer)?
i pick her up (sometimes with gloves; she bites ridiculously hard for a bird that weighs maybe 2 ounces) and try to make it a point to safely put her down in different places to try and get her used to the idea of me toting her around. it's the hands that bother her the most (and i understand that; other parrotlets are the same), but i just dont want her to react so violently (biting, flying into things [her wings are clipped]). so yeah; suggestions are appreciated.

Grab her quickly and handle her a bit. Once she's calm enough and knows you won't hurt her, it'll be easier the second time around.

It's not actual poop, it's cecals. Rabbits produce two kind of droppings: poop and cecals. They eat the cecals, not the poop.
The cecotropes are passed through the digestive tract of the rabbit and nutrients such as vitamins, amino acids and fatty acids are released from the bacteria and absorbed into the rabbit's body. In this way, rabbits are very efficient at producing their own vitamin, protein and fat supply from food. Cecals.
Rabbits are clean animals.

Re: The Pet[s] Thread
So in efforts of trying to be more open and tolerant of his interests, I went to the PetShop next to my job on my break today.
OH DEAR GOD!!!
I was so freaked out by the lizards. They were in glass, I was standing feet away, and I was still shaking and squirming.
