Best places to build a stable family and home
Salaams,
I am so sick of living in NY, my love for it has reached its limit, Im tired of seeing nothing but cars, concrete, bricks, stuffed subways, dirty streets, and people with attitudes
I am doing research on where the best places in America to raise a family are. Anyone who wants to give advice or warnings is more than welcomed
So here's what I got so far...
Best Places to Live: Top 100 - Middleton, Wis. (1) - Money Magazine
City Crime Rankings by Population Group
Im kinda interested in Arizona...this place looks cool
MONEY Magazine: Best places to live 2007: Flagstaff, AZ snapshot

I hear San Diego is nice... I like the area around Seattle too.

Too expensive and traffic is becoming a major issue.

i'm really surprised about san diego traffic... i'll watch the news before i head out and the traffic report will say there's traffic backed up for miles on the 163, or that the 8 and the 5 are a mess... and when i get out there, NOTHING... san diego traffic is nothing compared to the 91 or the 405 in LA/OC/IE... i guess i should be thankful but its annoying watching breaking news that a car is being towed off the freeway...

Re: Best places to build a stable family and home
San Diego sucks. Nice scenery, but a boring place. It's a lot cheaper than the Bay Area or LA, but if you want to buy a home, be prepared to shell out $$$.
I'd suggest the Midwest (Chicago 'burbs, Minneapolis area, Wisconsin), Phoenix, Atlanta 'burbs, or Dallas/Ft Worth burbs. Depends on what you like in terms of weather and culture. All of those places are spread out while still having culture & nice/decent metropolitan areas, traffic isn't TOO horrible (Phoenix is probably the worst on that list), and they all have a reasonable cost of living.

Re: Best places to build a stable family and home
I think it also depends on the Muslim community. I know for myself and Mr. PhDGirl, we don't want to be in a smaller town where we're the only or one of a very few Muslims. One community in which we lived was really stifling, so we didn't wind up going to things as much as we probably should have, which was kind of difficult. There are things like Sunday School, some choice in masjids etc to consider. Good luck in wherever you decide to go!

Awww, that's cute and true to some extent. But, you do have to live (and probably eventually raise kids) in the community, so it's important to think about the environment.

Re: Best places to build a stable family and home
Based on places I've lived, I'd have to say:
Rancho Santa Fe and Atherton California.
Don't ever move to Greenwich, CT , it sucks!!!!
NY isn't that bad, I have family in Old Westbury, Manhasset and Cold Spring Harbor, which are nice areas
