Yeah, but he's only four. And only likes the dishes so he can play with the suds. He doesn't like the dishwasher. And more often than not, he just gets in the way, but I let him hang around anyway.
Hope he doesn't grow out of it.

I usually use a brush and I scrub with baking soda mixed with some dishsoap (I use that combo to clean a lot of things actually). I let it sit while doing other things and then I rinse with vinegar and then take a shower. It has the benefit of cleaning the drain and being non-toxic too. I need to get a cleaning lady.....

Noooo, he never goes in the kitchen alone. I'm always with him.
I've taught him how to do it and now he knows how and he helps out by like pouring the water/milk/sugar and pressing the button on the coffee machine. And then we watch it drip together and he says something like "It's raining inside the coffee machine".
C'mon, I obviously don't make him make tea and coffee and do dishes. That really would be child labour.

Also, I think the key is to soak the dishes/pots/pans for a few minutes in warm water before you begin to wash. This way 1) you'd have to scrub less 2) less use of detergent 3) it saves a lot of time! For the larger pots which are left with a layer of food stuck to the bottom (which shouldn’t happen in the first place if you’re stirring consistently) I usually use those metal scrubbies to scrub off the layer of food, and then re-soap and rinse with a regular sponge.

I use Fairy Liquid, the lemon one.
I don't know how to explain it but what I mean is that sometimes, a dish that you've used to hold raw eggs or raw meat can smell weird, almost metallic. Washing isn't a problem, the dishes can look super-squeaky clean but still smell like that and no amount of soaking will make it go away. So it helps to use some powder detergent.
Maybe we just have super-sensitive noses.
Asvi - Ajax works great on tubs and sinks and tiles and you name it.
