your mom: stay at home or career oriented?
i was just wondering a few things about the fellow islamican chicks on here primarily..so guys, try not to interrupt too much.
i have noticed that there're many girls who grew up with either highly career oriented mothers, or mothers who had to spend more than half their lives working full time (due to financial reasons etc) who actually end up turning out to be a lot less obsessed with wanting a career or with a much tamed or passive drive for a profession. this may or may not be due to the fact that they felt somewhat neglected while growng up, or had to tend to their siblings due to the lack of their mothers presence, etc and don't want the same for their children. so while these girls may want an education and do want to work here and there, they generally tend to plan their life around their future (nonexistant) family/kids
please bear in mind that there's nothing wrong with wanting to be career oriented. and there're many who do pull it off without neglecting their offspring.
anyway, if you want to participate in this informal survey:
post what kind of a mom you've been exposed to (things like, before i was born and it was only my older siblings, my mom used to work or my mom quit working after i was born don't really count)
so is your mother a housewife?
has she always been one?
has she been involved in a career at points during your lifetime?
did she ever work solely out of necessity (financial) or due to boredom?
and finally:
what are your plans? do you aim to mostly be a housewife or career oriented or both?
please no long essays.. or if you wanna write an essay just answer the questions briefly first and then write.
i'm just really curious about how this turns out. so i dont want to sift through essays because i may not be able to get a clear idea of your experience/desires

1) yes, my mum's a housewife.
2) no, she's not always been one, there were short periods when she got enthusiastic about the world of work and decided to get a job. most of her career attempts were short lived for two reasons: a) she got bored. b) she had us to look after and decided it would be better to spend that extra time with us.
I plan to be a housewife. much less hassle.

Re: your mom: stay at home or career oriented?
My mother has always worked/studied, but she has also managed to take care of me (I was the only child ).
Personally, I do not think I want to work fulltime when my (future) children are very young. I want them to be independant and somewhat mature before I start working, and a five year old is hardly mature and independant.

I don't really know. staying at home drives me crazy so I'd make a terrible housewife. and I've invested too much time and money in school to just stay at home. at the same time, taking care of my family would be a priority so what'll probably happen is that I'll work full-time until I have kids then just 1-2 days/week to keep up my hand skills until they're in school and I can work more.

1) nope she works
2) she was for some time
3) shes working now
4) boredom, i dont want my mom to stay at home, she is very smart and very bright and can contribute to society in so many ways (including being a mom )

My mother was never a housewife, she always worked but her profession is teacher, when we were small she would work in the daycare that we went to, when we were in elementary school she worked there, My mom homeschooled me for a year in middle school. It wasn't until 8th grade that she let be "alone" in school hahah.
And she worked out of necessity.
I dont plan to be a housewife for very long ( maybe for like a year or two when i have my first child) but other than that I plan to work...to pay off my loans. I find satisfaction in paying for my own things, ( hello Manolo Blahnik! ) so i dont plan on giving that up when I get married/have kids. Ideally i would like to work part-time and be there for my kids in the afternoon.

Re: your mom: stay at home or career oriented?
so is your mother a housewife? She is deceased.
has she always been one? No
has she been involved in a career at points during your lifetime?
No, not a career, just work, but in career fields of Nurse and Teacher (Masters degrees in both)
did she ever work solely out of necessity (financial) or due to boredom? necessity
what are your plans? do you aim to mostly be a housewife or career oriented or both?
Would love to be a housewife if possible. Maybe work parttime for my own extra $.
Career oriented now. (I think it is good for a woman to have, whether she needs to work or not, good for her to be educated
and knowledgeable so she will be able to help children with their education, life skills, etc. too) InshaAllah

Re: your mom: stay at home or career oriented?
My mom started working about 6-7 years ago. I think my sisters and I kept her busy before that, hehe.
Boredom was the initial reason, since all of us were in school most of the day. of course, as we got older, there were more expenses so the extra income was helpful, alhumdulillah.
My plans: I like working because it keeps me busy (and I have money to spend on myself, lol).
However I wouldn't want to be in a situation where I can't devote enough time to my family because of work.
When I get married and have kids (iA), I'll definitely want to stay at home with them (like my mom did). After they grow up, having a steady job wouldn't be so bad.
