spicyhijabi: I dislike stark conemporary for that very reason. It lacks character.
I hated having to design interiors like that.

Totally agreed upon...

sumiyia: plain black/white aint my thing

The only black & white I totally love are the Ikea design rooms. Even though their room designs are black & white, it is surpringly so inviting and warm and looks 'lived-in'. Love it.

For a relatively inexpensive store IKEA has some nice furniture, but I'm not a big fan of their room designs. They use too many different patterns and colors together and the overall look is way too busy. It's great if you want to go for that funky style, which most IKEA shoppers do, but I prefer a cleaner look for my place.

From my experience, IKEA furniture tends to fall apart relatively quickly. You get what you pay for I guess.

Yeah it's definitely not the sturdiest, and particle board isn't exactly the most durable "wood" out there, but pretty much all my furniture is from IKEA and it's held together well so far.

the selene furniture is very nice, very chic - but with 2 kids, it's not very realistic for us

ikea, on the other hand, has a lot of very kid friendly yet "hip" looking stuff.

right now, we're still deciding on paint colors for various rooms. once we're done with that, then we'll move onto interior design.

oh wait. first, we have to get the house first..... ahaha. ha.....ha.

Roche-Bobois Furniture

They have a huge selection across three lines - Les Contemporains / Les Voyages / Les Provinciales.

I really love the open-wall concept:

I like the wall set on this one but I'd ditch the serpentine table and that FUGLY floor lamp in the corner:

Personally I wouldn't choose the magenta color, but I love the open-space concept

Now THIS is nice:

From their Les Voyages Collection:

Im a big fan of traditional indian/paki furniture. Some of these are pretty, some arent, but nothing compares to the gorgeous handcrafted stuff that comes out of Chiniot, Pakistan. Sigh.

It's funny how less wood and more metals and granite = more modern and futuristic

The thing is, using all these funky materials require a lot of chemical processes much of which are unhealthy to the atmosphere. Unless they manage to find out ways to make it more environmentally friendly.

Of course they gotta start making the houses with the thought of global warming in the first place in order to make the houses more green
