Family Geneology (Family Tree)
Asalaamualaikum,
Has anyone compiled their family geneology? In other words, a family tree. I just started and already have like about 79 people on it. I found this program by doing a google search and I am using this for my compiling.
Family Tree Builder - Free genealogy program
If anyone has, can you share how many people you have compiled and how you went about compiling all of the names.
One thing that made me start this is because my mother knows a lot about her family geneology and I wanted to get everything down on writing so it is preserved. Also another thing that got me started today is because i just found out that my real last name isnt Shafi, but Naik because my father and his siblings used their fathers first name as their last. I always knew that it wasn't really Shafi, but now i know what it really was.
Asalaamualaikum,
-Zahid

I'm adopted, and my birthmom is adopted, and we know nothing about the father. Therefore, we're one big mystery that will never be solved.

Well, it could be worse. What if you did know, and your father and mothers father were both serial killers or rapists or something? Maybe it's better that you don't know. It means you don't have any baggage. You can go on with your life blissfully believing that your nameless father was a great guy. Many of us have to live with the knowledge that our parents have serious problems.

For all I know, my dad has (or had) some heritage disease that skipped me, but will show up in my children, and I have no idea what do expect. I already have some health problems with my respitory system, but I'm told this may have been because my mom smoked and stuff when she was pregnant with me. But I get lots of ear infections, and my mom does too, and that's a hereditary disease because American Indians get more ear infections than any other race. Stuff like that.
And you're right, my dad may have been a bad man or what not, and I guess it may be best with not knowing. But still, I wish I was like everyone else where you all know your parents and grandparents and what not. Basically, it's just my mom and me.
You know what I'm saying?

Re: Family Geneology (Family Tree)
I know the bulk of my family arrived from Ireland. I think we came over during the famine. I know one of my ancestors was a detective in New York City during the thirties. There's a story of him chasing a criminal through Chinatown and falling into a trapdoor and finding his way out.
My immediate family didn't start to really branch out until my mother's generation, though. We used to be centered around New York City and Long Island in New York. But my mother headed off to make her living in Buffalo, my uncle in Seattle, my aunt in Florida and later in Buffalo. Now I have a cousin in Virginia, my sister in Philadelphia, and I'm in Chicago.

Re: Family Geneology (Family Tree)
Go ahead and learn your past and where your from--they are important things... however I caution... do not let it limit your future.

Pointless to investigate it beyond that

Re: Family Geneology (Family Tree)
I know my family ancestry from all but my maternal grandmothers side. I'm figuring there's Israeli and European but where in Europe and how in Israel? No one on that side who I know talks about it. So that sucks.
