What sort of Muslim organizations support RAWA?
I applaud RAWA for doing many things such as starting schools for girls and giving out humanitarian but they also have a side agenda, which is very disturbing.

There is nothing inherently wrong with democracy. Indeed for a Muslim majority nation, democracy should bring Shariah, provided that the Muslims in that country are in touch with their deen.

Re: Justice fails Afghan women
...and while everybody basks in the luxury of being able to argue over the finer points of justice, democracy and sharia, more Afghan women become victims of a self-indulgent male chauvinistic social setup.
...and then I wonder why browsing on Islamica makes me just a little bit depressed. But considering how everyone keeps coming back here some part of us deep down must love misery.

It all goes back to the deen, how much deen does RAWA promote? Instead these people promote being seculer and the western lifestyle. Again, I love that they are helping the poor, educating women and providing medical care but I have to disagree with many of their goals.
May Allaah guide us all and make us of those that seek His pleasure. Aameen

I can't think that in a Muslim country they will have much long term success. In any Muslim country, especially one so traumatized s Afghanistan, you need to found your reform on the basic values of the country. You can't just throw everything out and start over, that only causes more trauma becuase along with losing their loved ones in war, now they also lose their culture and identity. There are plenty of Islamic solutions to the un-Islamic abuses of human rights that go on in Afghanistan. Real true Islam gives full rights to women. To me it seems that in Afghanistan and elsewhere, people wrongly promote the idea that denying women rights is correct and Islamic, and unfortunately nobody stands up to challenge that. Everything can be done within the framework of Shariah. At least that's what I think.

Since there is no hope of an amalgamation of all the interpretations of the same religion from different schools of thoughts, no hope of reconciliation over religious issues between ethnic groups and no hope of a complete abolishment of religion itself perhaps a shift towards a semi-secular state? to reduce the power of authoritarian religious figures.

Trouble is as I understand it, there is no one Islamic leader who can speak with absolute authority,so you are left with various interpretations

Asallamu 'alaikum wa rahmatulLahi wa barakatuh
This is truely heartbreaking, although it's nothing new.
The more I learn about this world, the more I regret it, it's made me a very pessimistic person.
