Hyderabad blasts: Muslim Youth being arrested indiscriminately

Hyderabad: September 06: A human rights organization based in Hyderabad has alleged that around 40 Muslims youth have been arrested and kept in police custody since the twin blasts in Hyderabad. Lateef Muhammad Khan, general secretary of Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC) has alleged that security agencies in Hyderabad have detained several dozen Muslim youth without even informing their relatives.

Khan says that despite the fact that more than 50% casualties belonged to Muslim community, police without any evidence is blaming the community and arresting the Muslim youth without any evidence.

In a press release Khan said, “at present about 40-50 Muslim youths are in illegal detention of police. So many are detained for last 5 days, the whereabouts of these youths are not known.

As per the sources they are in torture cells, and police is using third degree torture on them and forcing them to own the responsibility of blasts”.

CLMC has asked the government to immediately release the Muslim youth, stop the harassment and illegal detention, investigate the blasts cases fairly and transparently by keeping in view all angels including political and international aspects, stop attacks on Madrasas as well as refrain from anti-Muslim propaganda.

Police refuse the allegation that they are checking any madrasa. ''We have not checked any madarsas. We are very sensitive to the fact that there are students. If we have any specific information, we take the authorities into confidence and carry out verification,'' Hyderabad Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh says
