It's a cultural thing. That's not to say we don't do stuff on our own. I especially clean my own bathroom and hate for anyone to do that for me. I also clean my own room.

I object to calling them "servants" becuase they really aren't. We are all servants of Allah (swt) at the end. They are paid helpers. Just like we're all "helpers" in any job. We help the CEO, the supervisors, the seniors ... whatever.

Most of our helpers have been with us for years, and they're family now. There's no such thing as an invasion or intrusion on our privacy, because we don't consider them outsiders. In fact, my father married off two of our helpers (the husbands asked the ladies' hands from my dad, and my dad paid the wedding expenses), and we only got that crazy Indonesian lady because one of the helpers had to leave with her husband.

It's been part of the culture in Arabia since forever.

its part of the culture in india and pak too, its just my own personal thing. i never grew up with house maids arounds and it just felt uncomfortable for me to have strangers who are not family walking around.

After Bhagalpur, youth dragged to death in Gujarat

New Delhi: While the horror of Bhagalpur police atrocity incident is yet to sink in, a very similar and an equally shocking case has been reported, this time from Gujarat.

In Salla village of Gujarat’s Banraskantha district, a young man was dragged to death after being tied to a tractor by relatives of a girl with whom he had allegedly eloped.

The incident took place on August 25 when the girl's family, upset over the alleged love affair between her and Ramesh Patel, barged into Patel’s house and forcibly dragged him outside.

Then, in broad daylight, they beat him, tied his feet to a tractor and dragged him till he succumbed.

Police officials say the men did not stop dragging Patel till he died.

Meanwhile, the two policemen accused of police brutality in Bhagalpur have been put under suspension with effect from Wednesday.

They have been charged of assaulting and dragging a chain-snatcher tied to their motorcycle two days ago.

They had tied the man's leg to a motorcycle and dragged him for several metres as he writhed in pain pleading for mercy. The incident had triggered a public outcry following which the errant policemen were placed under suspension.

On the other hand, maybe more is being made of it, because the victims are Muslim, and the perpetrators non-Muslim? People in Muslim countries like Pakistan and Saudi do horrible things like this to each other all the time.

well the other guy that was dragged to death in gujarat was hindu not muslim.
