Mandatory Military Service

AsSalamu' Alaykum,

So I got into a conversation with a Pastor Dave [yes like the character but I kid you not, that was his name

] at my job. I liked the man right off the bat. He was very well-rounded, thoughtful with his words, and very sharp.

He was telling me of his experience in Eritrea [Asmara is the capital and sounds so beautiful with a beautiful meaning, it is now on top of my most wanted female baby names but moving on...

] and describing to me the turmoil the country is in. I forgot how but we began on the conversation of government enforced military enlistment. I didn't hold back. I firmly gave my opinion on it, which thankfully he agreed 110% with.

Do you think the governments of the US, UK & Canada should have an enforced military enlistment upon turning a certain age [such as the age 18]?

I absolutely think so, ESPECIALLY in America. No this has nothing to do with the wars at hand [hell, I don't think those who are apart of the forced enlistment should be deployed to combat zones], but more about the sheer level of arrogance, brattiness, entitlement, and immediate gratification syndrome the children/criminals/parasites of this country are so dreadfully suffering from. They need structure, they need discipline, they need exercise, they need to feel that they are accountable for their actions, and they need to grow the hell up. Hell, as part of serving, they should be given a free college education. See, we hit so many birds with one stone.

Thoughts?

Even if military was mandatory, I still wouldn't fight.

I'm not a fan of mandatory anything. Our perception of military service is shaped by what we've seen in our lifetime and it would be hard to convince the young population that service is noble.

Wait, I thought it was against Islam to kill people? Because that is exactly what you do in the Army, not to mention the Army right now is massacering Muslims over in the Middle East.

So yeah, I'm sure there's something pretty haraam about joining the American military.

There is no need to convince when it is mandatory.

mandatory military service is used by countries that have that policy to indoctrinate the youth when they are young and receptive. Just look at Israel.

Against Islam to kill people? And that is exactly what is done in the military? Kill kill kill? I bet they probably drink the blood of their victims too.

I agree bro to kill for no just reason is haram no doubt, and that is exactly what this country's military does!

It would be pretty haram to join this country's army as it is and has been used to kill many innocents and Muslims. The reasons they have are BS. Obviously I also wouldn't kill my Muslim brothers and/or innocents just because they have the mandatory service. Wasn't it Clinton that went up to Canada or just take the jail time...not sure how long it is.

Yeah. Another example is joining the Nazis. You may not help in the genocide by carrying a gun and shooting people, but you're a member of the group that's massacering people, and that pretty much makes you as responsible.

"Following Orders" as today's American Military says, and so did the Nazis.

The Coast Guard is okay, in fact they are pretty rad. They do things like stop drug smuggling, and rescue fishermen.

No Chotoo, no matter which branch or what your job entails, you are still a mass murderer comparable to the Nazis.

Anyway, on a more serious note, soldiers of the Coast Guard were deployed to South Asia & the Gulf region, primarily as aid to the Navy & Marine Corps. Mainly port security stuff. I do wonder how many SAR's they did, if any, overseas in South Asia.

I seem to recall that some Coast Guard units were also sent to help out after the Asian Tsunami.
