I posted the following in the toronto crew thread, seems relevant here too:
I recieved the following in an email:

Quote:
As a clarification:

The bail hearing will be held April 14 to the 18th, all five days of the week between 9am -4pm. You are encouraged to come the whole day,or specify when it is possible to come, either 9-12 or 1-4 so that we have the courtroom full at all times. Email info@toronto18.com with the times you can attend.

From: Naseem B. Mithoowani Sent: April 3, 2008 2:29

I am inviting each and every one of you personally to an event that is of great personal significance to me -- and to each and every Canadian who believes in the rule of law. The event is the bail hearing of one of the so-called 'Toronto 18', young men from the GTA who were charged more then 2 years ago with charges of terrorism.

This is finally taking place MONDAY, APRIL 14th at 9:00 am and FRIDAY, APRIL 18th at 4:00 p.m. at the COURTHOUSE IN BRAMPTON (7755 Hurontario Street, Misissauga). The public is allowed to attend.

For more then 2 years, Saad has been in jail -- without having the merits of his case tried -- under extreme circumstances, including solitary confinement (ie; NO human contact) for over a year. This is more then even convicted murderers are given. I don't have to remind you that Saad is a Canadian who is innocent until proven guilty.

WHY YOUR ATTENDANCE IS NECESSARY:
The case of the “Toronto 18” is not the first of its kind.

In August 2003, 23 South Asian men were arrested in a similar case, now known as “Project Thread”. Despite claims from government and the police that an “al-Qaeda sleeper cell” had been discovered in Ontario, not one of the men was ever charged. After the media hoopla subsided, most of the men – all Muslims - were quietly deported to Pakistan, despite their innocence. None received an apology from the government. The case of Maher Arar is even more startling. A five month-long public inquiry was called to investigate the role of the RCMP and CSIS in Arar’s rendition to torture in Syria. Arar was completely exonerated, forcing the government to issue an official apology and compensation.
These cases show a similar pattern

Charges or allegations made by the RCMP or CSIS receive widespread coverage in the press, often with scare-mongering headlines; when charges are dropped or allegations proved to be untrue, the coverage disappears. These cases also show how “intelligence” agencies have disseminated incorrect information, or withheld correct information, in order to support their claims.
The consequences of these actions have been devastating

These actions affect all of society, not just those targeted, and undermine the basic civil liberties and freedoms that should be available to everyone. There is a collective responsibility among all groups, communities and individuals to defend these liberties and freedoms, so that no one stands alone. An injury to one is an injury to all.

We've heard from the media on this case

I now invite you to act as your own judge and attend to hear both sides of the story. What you may hear might surprise you, for the story is much different then the sensationalist view we have been fed on TV. Check out the following documentary on You Tube: YouTube - 1 - Unfair Dealing: The Toronto Homegrown Terror Threat 1/6
It is important as a concerned Canadian citizen, to find out for ourselves and ensure that justice is served. Our commitment to the rule of law is tested in our ability to apply it to the hardest of cases.

Saad doesn't come home until 2014 if bail is denied
In the bail hearing for Qayyum Abdul Jamaal, another one of the accused terrorists, the Judge cited community support as a reason for granting him bail. The community was concerned enough to come to the hearing which assured the judge that there was less likelihood of Mr. Jamaal violating his bail conditions. If Saad does not come home now, he remains in prison on UNPROVEN charges until 2014. This is a young boy of barely 20 years old (18 at the time of the arrests).

I heard that his hearing was adjourned to the 21st. Why was that?

Don't quote me on it, but I was told that the prosecution was using delay tactics [as expected] to try to get additional dirt on the boys, and to cover for the fact that they themselves had no real reason to prevent the bail; they were just stalling for time because with each member of the accused that gets released on bail it weakens the Feds case more and more, and the public begins to see that it was all a scam.

Terror trial's key witness admits threats

Peter Small
Isabel Teotonio
Staff Reporters

A police agent who is the Crown's star witness in a homegrown terror trial has pleaded guilty to threatening to chop off the legs of two 12-year-old girls.

Mubin Shaikh, 32, was given a one-year conditional discharge yesterday after admitting to one count of threatening to cause bodily harm in a case unrelated to the trial taking place in Brampton.

Shaikh was paid $300,000 to infiltrate the "Toronto 18" terror group. Final arguments in the case of a youth who allegedly belonged to the group begin next week.

According to an agreed statement of facts, Shaikh got into an argument with the girls on April 3, 2007, as they walked to Kane Senior Middle School, near his home in the Keele St. and Eglinton Ave. W. area.

During the dispute, Shaikh, a former army cadet with martial arts training, said: "Do you know who I am? I'm going to chop off your legs."

Shaikh told reporters the dispute was sparked when youths surrounded and threatened his children, ages 1 and 3.

"I had to protect my kids. It's as simple as that," he said.

But according to a police synopsis, the dispute started after he made comments from his van to the girls concerning their supposed truancy. Police alleged that he left his vehicle and approached them.
