he voted against banning partial birth abortions.

he is strongly in favor of gay marriage & presenting homosexuality as a norm to children ("they already know about it").

he spoke out on israel's right to attack lebanon when israel was carpetbombing lebanon.

he believes that our defense dept should cooperate with israel's defense dept in weapons development.

he wants to ban ALL semi-automatic weapons (!?) and voted against prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers.

he makes bellicose statements about invading pakistan.

economically, he perfectly fits the mold of the traditional tax-and-spend democrat. which i suppose is better than the neocon don't-tax-and-still-spend republican.
The only thing Obama has is charisma. This is why people have fallen for him. However, like most democrat politicians today, he is an opportunistic, success-driven political careerist who doesn't believe in anything. I don't think a lot of people even know or care about his actual policies on real issues.

prior to obama becoming the latest flavor of the month, you were supporting edwards. then hillary. i'm pretty sure some of you would support albert speer if he got the democratic nomination.
Some people would probably support Hitler if he got the democratic nomination.

One could say the same thing about the Republicans as well.

Seriously Sixpakistan, we know your political prefrences. Just becuase you prefer a certain set of politics doesn't mean you have to attack everyone else who follows a different set. Enjoy voting for Ron Paul, maybe if enough people vote for him, he'll skim enough votes from McCain that the Democrats will win in November.

Why don't I want to vote republican? Because these days republicans support torture. McCain voted against the bill to ban waterboarding, for instance:
White House to veto Senate ban on waterboarding - Yahoo! News

I can safely say I would never vote for any of the other Republican candidates. Knowing Kaminyu, I don't think he would, either.

I was addressing this statement:

& it's a reference to other statements that have been made in other threads, going back at least a year .. people wanted edwards, then hillary, and now THEY CAN! with obama. my intention is not to attack, but to put things into perspective.

i think we all want what's best for muslims.

Ron Paul has absolutely 0 in common with John McCain.

But in all fairness to McCain (who I can't stand), he has always spoken out against torture and waterboarding (for decades, not months). He voted against the bill for other reasons.

Indeed. However, I could care less about parties, as I vote for candidates, not parties. I vote for who I agree with the most, and that's all there is to it.

It doesn't matter who wins in November between McCain, Obama and Clintion, as the end result is still the same: More wars, more erosion of people's freedom, rights and liberties, and a total economic collapse. Such a set of politics should always be attacked, as they are immoral and unethical.

Democrats these days support virtually everything the Republicans do.

let me clarify; it was not my intention to suggest that i vote against my conscience. i've learned over the years, however, that in addition to desiring political change, my conscience also dictates that i make effective decisions. so in balancing those two things that my conscience asks of me, i voted obama.

Default Re: official MD, DC & VA primaries thread

i think a democrat in the white house will be hellva alot better than a repug anyday. and obama can beat the repug john mccain and hillary cant. if hillary could, i would throw my backing to her.

the democrats will pull troops out of iraq. that has been the theme of thier campaign since the 06' mid term elections. most polls show that most average democratic voters want a pull out as fast as possible.

not only that, you will see an end to the patriot act and vritually all the candidates are promising to close gauntanamo bay prison camp. led by the efforts of senior party leader, senator ted kennedy, the democrats have tried to end the patriot act, have tried to end the iraq war, but bush used his presidential veto powers every single time. now he wants the wire tapping laws to become permanment too, along with his tax-cuts for the rich and wealthy.

you wont see any more war's under the democrats. the democrats are very mindful of the muslim voters that they have in thier camp. which is why bill clinton went to bat over kosova, and why bush used it against him in the 2000 debates against al gore.

obama has called for an end to isreali settelements. thats amazing that in an election year he can say something like that. in 1992 bill clinton said he didnt oppose it, and that was after the fight that bush sr. had with the isreali lobby aipac over the issue of loan garuntees.

while it is true that obama has changed his tune ever since joining the senate, thats because the power of the zionist lobby wont allow a senetor to say anything different.

in his early years as a state politician here in IL, obama has called fore more balance in the middle east. what most of the extremists here on this board want isnt fair and balanced policy towards palestine, they wont be satisfied till they get full and complete support. so you can either be reasonable and hope for the best, or be an extremist and get nothing.

and lastly, its easy for a young student to care only for foreign policy, its easy for a bunch of fanatical desis to care only for arab causes (while neglecting his own homeland), but real people are hurting in this recession, many Muslim's have been affected by it. in everything from the nyc/chicago taxi driver who is dishing out $400 a week on gas expenses alone, to the engineer or I.T. worker who has been laid off and cant find work due to outsourcing.

obama has promised to put an end to that and tax companies that ship jobs overseas.

now i live in a heavily blue state. it makes no difference if obama is the democratic nominee or not. a democrat will win my home state. so my vote here in the novemer election is really meanginless.

but for muslim's who live in key battleground states, like florida, like ohio, missouri, louisiana, michigan, nevada, utah, new mexico and arizona your vote will count for everything.

do you really want ot hear the word's president john mccain? the man who favors the patriot act. the man who calls us 'islamo-fascists', the man who says he will stay in iraq for 100 years and further ruin the economy even more? he already told laid off auto workers in michigan 'your jobs will not come back', that tells you alot right there alone. and skipping this election, or throwing away your vote on a nobody, especially if you live in key battleground states, you may as well vote for john mccain - because your handing him the white house.

beautifully put. and to see what the democrats has to offer look no further than president bill clinton.

he offered hope, he always said in the 92' campaign 'i still believe in a place called hope', refering to his the town he was born in, hope, arkansas. he promised real change and made the economy his key central platform.

and under bill clinton we saw the best economy after fifty years, since ww2. 22 million new jobs opened up, and high paying jobs too. people were making money everywhere. high school kids were working in office building call centers out in the burb's. i remember those good times. i want to see them back again.

and the democrats dont believe in supply-side economics, reaganomics, of tax-cuts for the rich, and tax hikes for the middle class to pay for it. they believe cutting taxes on the middle class will spur the consumer-driven economy. historically proven that when people have extra cash on hand, they spend it. and that's why democrats have to win in november and polls show that obama can win in november. this isnt my opinion, its what national polls have shown on what most people are thinking.

i don't pretend to myself that it will be "happily ever after" with obama in office. in fact, i expect the opposite, meaning i think that should he take office, he will probably have one of the most difficult presidencies ever (or at least, a very difficult one). it's rocky times ahead no matter who takes the lead.
