you dont think hero worship is part of turkish culture?

the entire ideology of turkish nationalism, which is a central narrative in the lives of tens of millions of turks and is an influence on pretty much all turks, is a cult of personality revolving around one man and the institutions that he developed (military, secular institutions, republican constitution, etc)

or do you disagree that its part of human culture in general? I think its very common, i dont know enough about every single human society that has ever existed to say that it's universal, but it is near-universal

I didn't say that it wasn't part of turkish culture I said in the specific case of Kemal and Muslimah_Turkish it wasn't hero worship.

He built a modern country out of a feudal state, and turned an army that had been repeatedly beaten by Arabs riding camels into battle into one that dislodged a determined modern western military from territory it ideologically saw as its own.

Don't see how his drinking affects anyone other than himself.

I must have missed the part where you said anything specific, but you might be right. Actually when it comes to the actual comments made in this topic, I really dont think its important what Ataturk's personal habits were, or his private beliefs,

I just made an observation about turkish people and nationalism. many of them are nationalistic and very defensive about certain subjects, such as the sanctity of turkish control over kurdistan, the Armenian Genocide lie, certain aspects of M Kemal Ataturk's life, etc. Nationalism exists everywhere, the Turkish form seems to be pretty unique though
