It's not just American political system, take *any* political system for that matter. Pakistan, India, Vanezuela, UK, etc. Except for the commies who dont vote, all political systems are corrupt. People across the globe vote based on centuries old family ties, loyalties, business purposes, etc.
Muslims should not rely on promises of politicians...Our Ummah is in such a terribly mayoos state today because we rely on people to sort our issues out instead of relying on Allah.
Politicians who careless about us.

Re: Official Election 2008 thread
So between Palin not allowing abortions for rape victims, as well as charging for rape kits, and also with McCain (and a slew of other Republicans) voting against a bill requiring free rape exams, I feel like I'm missing something here.
What's with the rape victim hate? It seriously boggles my mind how they're so against victims getting access to a proper examination after a traumatic event. Disgusting.

The article that you linked specifically says Palin is against charging victims for rape kits.
Quote:
Palin spokeswoman Maria Comella said in an e-mail that the governor "does not believe, nor has she ever believed, that rape victims should have to pay for an evidence-gathering test."
"Gov. Palin's position could not be more clear," she said. "To suggest otherwise is a deliberate misrepresentation of her commitment to supporting victims and bringing violent criminals to justice."
|
The person who did not want the state to pay for it was the police chief, who has expressed that he thinks the criminal ought to be charged for the cost of the investigation. I've heard this story about "Palin not supporting rape victims" before, and there is no substance to it, nor any evidence that it's actually true.
That said, I agree that it's pretty absurd to charge the victim of a rape for doing a necessary workup and investigation. I'm not sure what this police department was thinking -- the police chief at the time claimed that he was against increasing the "tax burden" on citizens, but with all the nonsense and crap our taxes go towards, this is actually something that is worthwhile. wth.

Pretty much anyone who is against abortion by principle would logically be against abortion for rape victims. How does that (on its own) translate to hatred of rape victims?

Salaams,
I thought in Islam exceptions were made with respect to the prohibition on abortion for victims of rape, and incest and for situations in which the mother's life was in danger? No?

Can you explain that? I'm not trying to sound rude or anything, just genuinely curious.
Like Khairan said, I thought it was the other way around.

I think the issue is that...contrary to the assertion made by her spokesperson....she actually appointed this police chief and was fully apprised of his beliefs and actions while discharging his role.
One could argue that her support of these practices by her police chief (while she was mayor) was a tacit approval of the policy.

The Islamic position on abortion is highly nuanced.......I believe that sixpak was referring to people who are opposed to all abortions out of principle (as many Evangelical Christians do).
