Clinton wins in Pennsylvania, NBC projects
Democrats clash over size, importance of victory; Obama seeks momentum
By Alex Johnson

NBC News projected Tuesday night that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton had won Pennsylvania’s presidential primary, a victory that analysts said she had to have if she were to remain a credible candidate for the Democratic nomination.
Clinton, independent analysts and the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois had predicted ahead of time that Clinton would win the state, where she enjoyed large leads in opinion polls until recently. But after closing the deficit in the last few weeks, Obama’s advisers said he would have the momentum unless Clinton won by a sizable margin.
Howard Wolfson, Clinton’s chief spokesman, maintained that the size of any Clinton victory was immaterial. Targeting his pitch to the Democratic officeholders and other superdelegates who hold the balance of power at the party convention in Denver in August, he said a win was a win.
Obama “didn’t come to get 45 percent,” Wolfson said in an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews. “Fifty [percent] plus 1 is a victory.”
“If he can’t outright beat us, I think it will once again raise questions for the superdelegates,” Wolfson said.
But NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell quoted senior Clinton advisers as saying their analysis of interviews with voters as they left the polls indicated that Clinton would not get a big victory. The atmosphere was tense inside the campaign because it appeared Clinton would not get a boost of momentum from the night’s returns, Mitchell reported.
The senior advisers said that coupled with the campaign’s serious financial problems — the latest Democratic filings with the Federal Election Commission showed that Clinton was running in the red, while Obama had $42 million in cash on hand — the results meant they would have to work to find a new rationale for Clinton’s remaining in the race, Mitchell reported.

wasn't she suppose to win by more than 10% to have any realistic chance?

Re: Official Election 2008 thread
Most people are saying Obama will still win so whatever. Anyone see his speech? It was a little repetitive but decent. But I kind of seeing Hilary win in PA regardless. Philly and some parts would go for Obama but overall the state would go for her. He'll win NC and Indiana though.

Re: Official Election 2008 thread
Did anyone see Rev. Wright's speech to the NAACP?? Honestly it was pretty good. He brought up some valid points. and he's whole theme was "We're all different but not difficient" I hope they post it online so others can watch. My dad liked it so much he watch it twice.

I wouldnt call indiana for obama yet. He maybe from next door, but as someone who is very familar with indiana, i can tell you he has his work cut out for him because of the large number of blue-collar union workers from gary down to indianapolis, especially where the hummer plant is located at along with the coal mines and other factory towns that are disappearing fast. These people tend to be hardcore democratic party loyalists and will vote the party line, and that means hillary. ever been to gary, indiana? I have, the place is a dump-hole. Its little wonder why donald trump opened up a lakefront casino there.

Re: Official Election 2008 thread
Hillary seems somewhat arrogant and deceitful. I dont care if she's a woman and I'm not doing "my duty by voting for someone of my sex" Obama is ten times better even though he said some things I dont like (about Pakistan and war n stuff) but overall he is the lesser evil. I read that McCain's idiotic reverend said America was made to annihilate Islam and should be ruled as a theocracy but HE doesnt get any attention while Wright does. Typical. I hate this crap
Ah, here's the proof.
America was created to destroy Islam, says McCain [spiritual] adviser He says so in his book 'Silent No More' not to be confused with 'Silent No More' by Paul Findley (whom I met with and read his amazing book )

McCAIN: It's common knowledge and has been reported in the media that the -- that Al Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran. That's well-known, and it's unfortunate.
