Really? Wow. They'd rather a African get in than vote for McCain. That's pretty hardcore, but also a little confusing. Aren't these Bible Belters all a bit "The Baaaable sez negros iz for slave work, yee haw, hyuk hyuk hyuk" or have I become a victim of media-sponsored propaganda playing to stereotypes.

yes they are that hardcore. remember these are bible thumpers, they would rather sit at home on election day or stick up a third party candidate than vote. right now they got mike huckabee and they are voting for him. why? because he spouts the bible, so did romney, but huckabee crushed him in the bible belt which is why he dropped out, and why his voters are running straight to huckabee. smaller voter turnout for repugs, and a fanatical religous right-wing that is very angry at mccain, and used to having power for 7 years under bush, will will split the repug side, and help propel the democrat into the white house. and if that democrat is obama, all those independent voters, who usually decide these elections, that mccain would need so desperately to win, will go obama, even some repugs as we are seeing. you heard the phrase 'regean democrat'? how does the phrase 'obama republican' sound?
and as for the south, its changing alot, its not as rural as it used to be. more people live in the cities, more people are turning democratic, and the economy has hit everyone hard, especially in the south, which is why states like virginia, and the coal mining west virginia are now battleground states and up for grabs between dems and repugs.
not only that, i was looking at the numbers from the primaries of three southern states: alabama, south carolina, and the big one, georgia. In all these three states, either voter turnout in the democratic primary was higher than the repug, or they were tied with the repug in voter turnout. thats pretty amazing given that this is the repug heartland!.

Re: Official Election 2008 thread
now here's another good example of that, of course louisiana has always been a battelground state. the recent election of a desi, bobby jindal shows this, even if he is a repug.
in the heart of the deep south, cajun country, where people still speak french, as this was a french colony before the 19th century lousiana purchase..
in tonite's louisiana primary voter turnout based on the total number of votes casted
TOTAL NUMBER OF VOTES CASTED IN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY PRIMARY IN LOUISIANA:
336,935
TOTAL NUMBER OF CASTED IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY PRIMARY IN LOUISIANA:
157,272
that's 179,663 more vote's casted in the democratic party primary, than the repug.
and even though the state has only 9 electoral votes in the electoral college, you take those 9 E.C.V. and add 5 from say new mexico, and maybe another 5 from say nevada, and still lose Ohio, and the democrats can still win the election in november and the white house, and hit that magical number of 270, or 2/3 majority in the electoral college. those 9 votes can mean the difference between winning and losing the general election in november. remember, even though the electoral college votes are based on the number of congressional representatives in the house, its still winner takes all for each state.
and let me just say one last thing about barak obama. tonite i was watching his live speech on cnn and msnbc at some democratic dinner. and he said that if he is the prez, he would tax heavily any company that ships jobs overseas through outsourcing! that's exaclty what we need!!!!!
the only time you ship jobs overseas, is if you really need it badly to hire workers overseas, then you should pay higher taxes for that and make it worth it!
maybe now all those I.T. jobs, and all those customer service jobs that we lost, will actually come back and we will start to see the economy boost quickly again in 09'.
and for the record that witch hillary, is dead set against this, because she is bought off by the corporate lobbying of the likes of bill gates, steve jobs of apple computers, and others.
makes me all more happier than i voted for him in my state's primary, mostly to help him get more delegates in the national convention.
and in Missouri, 300,000 more people voted in the democratic primary vs. the repug primary. the state usually votes republican and has voted for the winner in every election for the last 100 years. the state has 11 electoral college votes.
Louisiana
STATE INFORMATION: 9 electoral votes
2,837,985 total registered voters -- 53% Democratic, 25% Republican, 22% Other

they'll probably vote for mccain. the ministers who run evangelical superchurches generally endorse candidates. The local and national republican candidates go to them and ask for their support, they ask for commitments regarding certain issues that are important to evangelicals, a compromise is made, and you have an endorsement. Its like how shia politicians in Iraq have to go grovel to that guy Sistani. The christian right knows how much influence they will lose if they stay out of politics for 8 years

ya right, they would rather stay home than vote for mccain, and that booing they gave him at the cpac convention was proof enough of that. who the in world are you kidding?
they have had power through bush for 7 years now, they are in no mood to compromise. not to mention how many of them felt betrayed by ronald reagan in the 80's, these hardcore fanatics will not compromise over anything.

it seems to me like the regular people in these churches put alot of weight in the endorsements of the pastors and televangelists and stuff. If those guys endorse mccain, it might sway alot of christian voters.

thats true but when huckabee loses the nomination, he might endorse john mccain himself. Usually thats what happens, the parties come together behind their candidates once the candidate is chosen

but that's only if the party is already unified. your talking about a divided republican party, so divided that you will see it seen in thie republican convention itself, the way it occured with the democrats in the 68', 72' and 80' convention.
if anything, watch the christian fanatics stick up a third party candidate, a la ross perot style.
