I think it's more of a building bridges sort of thing.

We just gave out boxes of see's candies to our neighbors and one of them sent back the sweetest note. We had been feeling kinda bad because we don't really have contact with our neighbors but Islamically they have a lot of rights over us. So.... breaking the ice a bit.

I didn't like the wording of the Fatwa but the sources used is what I was aiming to show you.

The aim of accepting gifts shouldn't bve to soften one to Islam (that sounds very decpetive to me) but to be an open person and show that as Muslims we can be accomodating and open and that Islam is not closed off.

I didn't read the fatwa, but it's not about making Islam more attractive.

As you know, people do still have a ton of misconceptions about Muslims.
So having good relationships with your neighbours/co-workers/whoever just helps them to be able to see that Muslims are people too.

Yeah, i think the making Islam more attractive part just means to make it more of a normal thing... instead of the way it usually seems to people who don't have a lot of contact with Muslims.
