Mass action is needed to keep off the evil of interest

Hyderabad, August 07 (Athar Moin): The trend in old city is very strange. Here, people who are deprived of various government’s welfare schemes, always consider those as their God Fathers who forward their helping hand in order to provide them two square meals a day, be it a person or organization without giving it a second thought that what is there in store for them.

Muslim community is in the grip of taking loans from various not-so-known organizations to meet the expenses of the education, marriages and to get rid of the old loans and debts. They are unknowingly becoming the prey of those people who offer them financial help in the name of loan without realizing that this is how the Muslim community is getting depend on them.

If objections are raised, they ask that whether a religious loan (Karz-e-Hasana) could be arranged for them? Micro financing is the kind of loan, which is not only making the people prey to it but also seeping various other evils into the Muslim society. The evil of this network would be realized later in the long run and India might become another Bangladesh. One main condition for to obtain this loan is to provide a joint photograph of the husband and wife and it has come to the knowledge that some brother-sister have posed themselves as husband and wife to avail the loan.

They are of the opinion that to become a member of the group, what’s wrong if they declare themselves as husband and wife though Islam has forbidden brother and sister converting into husband and wife. So what if their relationship is on the paper only. No one is there to guide them. It is said these organizations are financed by UNO and are being registered with different local names suitable for different countries and their language such as Spandana Spurti Innovative Financial Service Ltd., and The Sharada Mutual Aided Co-operative and Thrift Society Ltd., are active in the city.

First of all, they take one woman into their confidence and she was made aware of all the affairs of the scheme to invite others to become a member. She is offered commission on every member she would suppose to enroll. Only women are offered the membership but later, they are allowed to submit a photograph of hers with her husband, which’s pasted on the card of the loan. The main woman along with the other ten member women later called to the head office of the organization where they are asked to take a pledge in Telugu language.

After that loan is given. For example, for the loan of Rs. 8000/ ($160)-, Rs. 500/ ($10)- are deducted in advance as processing charges and service tax. After that every member has to pay Rs. 172/ ($3.44) - per week but they pay Rs. 175/ ($3.50) - for 50 weeks resulting in their excess payment to the tune of Rs.1500 ($30) or 2000 ($40).

According to the scheme, every member is bonded with each other as far as the payment of weekly installment is concerned. If any member is failed to make the payment, it is the duty of the other members to persuade her to pay or arrange the money on their behalf. To collect the installment, a man comes to the house of any member woman where all the other members are assembled.

This man comes only when the husbands of the women are not present in the house. All these women have to welcome him in a particular way. Whenever, a members completes the installment of the loan, she is lured for another loan bigger than the previous one. Some times back, it was revealed that in Islamabad that these financing people are preaching Christianity under the wraps.

Micro financing people were once made to run by the youths of Islamabad. Their activities are suspicious. Any way, their activities are now reduced in Islamabad followed by Nalgonda. But micro financing has invaded Hyderabad city to a great extent and no one is there to prevent them from this menace. Is anybody listening?

so i got to meet the sitting MP (Member of India's Parliament) for the old city of Hyderabad, Assaduddin Owaisi today at Jummah namaz. He is in Chicago to give a speech (and get some donations too). I asked him if his speech was free and he said 'yes', then i told him he does very good work to which he thanked me for it. He does really good work not just for the Muslims of Hyderabad, but for the Muslims all over India. inspite of the videos below he was very soft spoken, but then again there were no cameras around, no campaigning and i think he was simply just a tourist today.

Tension on Osmania Varsity campus

Hydrabad, August 11: Tension prevailed on the Osmania University campus here on Friday following a clash between two rival groups over sharing a room in the hostel.

Trouble broke out on Thursday when two students had an argument over sharing a room in E-2 Hostel (dorms) on the university campus.

On Friday, activists belonging to the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) came in support of one of the students leading to minor tension in the hostel (Dorms).

Soon, a large number of students reportedly armed with sticks had gathered near the hostel leading to some tense moments on the university campus.

Police, however, pacified and dispersed the students.

my khandan's neighbord of hussaini alam in the old city of hyderabad is a stronghold of the MIM. I even attended a lecture by the owaisi sr. back in 94'. Do these people have a point? Possibly. the Old City is one big Muslim ghetto. The MIM is a partner in the Congress-led Government in Delhi. Why cant they get more Federal funds for the Old City? Instead they bring up Taslima Nasreen, Babri Masjid, while these are important issues, they dont affect your average Muslim stuck in the grinding poverty of the Old City of Hyderabad. If you were to look at the Hyderabadi Community overseas, living in North America, UK and the Gulf, you will find that 90% thats right 90%! are straight out of the Old City of Hyderabad, in regards to Muslims that is. Very rarely will you meet someone who hail's from Abids - unless he is a liar. Or say Mehdipatnam, let alone banjara hills, jubilee hills, or even secendurabad. YOU will almost never meet anyone from Secendurabad i promise you that.




MIM blamed for ‘slow’ development in old city

Hyderabad, August 19: A scathing attack on Majlis-e-Ittehadul-Muslimeen (MIM) and charges on its role in stalling developmental activities in the old city were made during a convention on ‘Development of Old City’ at Siasat office organised by City Committee of CPI (M) The Comminist Party of India, Marxist.

“We are not allowed to visit colonies to voice our opinions. We are not allowed to hold mass congregations to discuss on developmental issues. At times, we are prevented from interacting with the locals and raise issues. Are we living in a democracy?” asked CPI (M) City Committee member M. Srinivas.

The chief guest of the meeting and former Head of Journalism Department, Osmania University, Abdul Raheem said, “Asking for more funding to develop old city is not the solution. Corrupt MLAs of old city, officials and contractors would make sure to usurp all the funds meant for development.”

Speakers felt that lack of health, sanitation, proper schools and other such amenities in the old city were symptomatic to deep-rooted problems. “Public here do not have enough space or a platform to fight for their basic rights. When people start asking questions, then things would definitely start happening,” said P. Chandra Sekhar of Confederation of Voluntary Organisations (COVA).

Nexus

They felt that time was ripe to break the nexus between the police, politicians and rowdy-sheeters. “People have the power to put the politicians in their places,” felt MLC, K. Nageswar.

Some of the speakers also pointed out that Government was ‘unable’ to link the livelihood of craftsmen, with tourism. “Charminar and the old city markets attract large number of tourists on a daily basis. However, the life of a craftsman has not changed in the last decade,” lamented Ali Asgar of Roshan Vikas.
