Venezuela
What do you guys think of the political system in Venezuela? Without copy and pasting anything, your personal thoughts or what you've learnt from personal/institutional study will suffice.

Re: Venezuela
I think it's good that the people there have taken control of the nation's wealth and are using it for the good of the people.
Venezeulans who hate chavez are probably the most evil people on Earth, mostly imperialist lackies and exploiters of people.

Re: Venezuela
Hmm, i think it's great they have a written constitution and everybody is aware of it. That's one of the factors which led to Chavez being repositioned in power after the attempted revolution (apparently initiated by american forces?).
On the other hand, Venezuela has a recall function where, if a certain number of people want to throw out someone from government, they collect a certain number of signatures. Apparently, the opposition party collected enough signatures to throw Chavez out but he didn't accept it. Surely, a fair and democratic leader would either step down or change the law if he didn't think it was valid Later on they found out the opposition party had included the signatures of people who had died a year ago, but that didn't come to light until after he refused to step down.
I don't know much about Venezuela but it seems to have a very interesting political system.

The natives of south america have been ignored for too long in their own lands in favour of the descendents of genocidal colonialists...
How long are they supposed to put up with being treated like second class citizens in their own lands ?

Re: Venezuela
I really don't think this is the first time a third-world politician has cancelled democracy just because he didn't like the results. Chavez is a dictator, isn't he? A dictator is a dictator, and a dictator still has absolute power. He may care about his people and thumb his nose at countries which would potentially abuse them, but a dictator is still a dictator and he still controls everything in the end.

Re: Venezuela
Third world?
I wasn't aware we still used this 'world' rating system.
What is a third world country?
If its a country that rejects the narcissistic principles of capitalism then hey we should all go third world.

So what if he is? Latin America isn't exactly a bastion of democracy is it?

I don't know a lot about it, but I am kind of worried about them. Chavez has been rolling back democratic institutions for a while now. He's also basically leveraging the country's oil wealth to fund massive social projects without careful re-investment back into the source. He's scoring big points with the poor, but it's un-sustainable. I know he's generally well liked on Islamica too, because he calls Bush a 'silly donkey' and stuff like that, and generally takes a hard line stance against anything American. But he's not really presenting himself as a very responsible leader.

Not really, it's what I've noticed. And I see it another way.

Re: Venezuela
Cancelled democracy? Where did you hear that, Fox news?
Chavez is the democratically elected leader of his country, and one of the few world leaders today who stand ups to the zionist neo-con order. Granted he occasionally has said a few things unbecoming of a world leader, but that's nothing compared to the verbal diarrhoea that comes out of the mouth of that neocon puppet Bush.
It's only dumbass hillybilly Americans who choke their chickens every time someone on Fox News tells them Chavez is destroying Venezuelan democracy. Like any of them can point to Venezuela on a map or had even heard of it before Chavez came into power.

No it isn't, and that's exactly my point. This Chavez character doesn't have a whole lot of bad PR. He's adamant that his country remain free of our own imperialist ways and seems to really care about his people. But my point is that despite those qualities, he still cancelled the results of an election because he didn't accept his peoples' desire to see him step down.
