what good would that do? Aren't you fond of having a primary care doctor? Do you have any idea how many of them are foreign because American medical graduates don't want to be primary care physicians? If we halt all immigration, who will teach at Universities? We just don't have enough skilled people in the US to fill all the skilled jobs. At many universities, a good half of the graduate students are foreign, and they stay in the US after they graduate. It isn't hurting American graduates in the same field.

Now, if your issue is with education, foreign folks send their kids to the same schools you and I go to, and their kids still graduate at higher rates and attend college at higher rates than non-foreign born folk. Sure, our primary and secondary schools aren't as good as they could be, but we also have a culture problem. Basic American culture doesn't value education, especially education in the sciences. If we want America to stay on top in terms of innovation and technology, we need immigration to fill in the gaps.

I don't see how that's relevant. I don't think that the US or any nation should engage in a practice that will harm itself in the long-run just for historical reasons.

I see the immigration issue primarily from an environmental point of view. Immigrants mostly adopt the American lifestyle, which is to consume huge amounts of raw materials and produce great amounts of pollution. This has an obvious environmental impact on the US and the rest of the world as well.

It's only different in a couple ways: (1) They don't need to generate a 30% profit to fill the coffers of the top employees, so this will keep costs down. It just has to be self-sustaining, not profitable. (2) They won't discriminate based on pre-existing conditions, since their goal will not be profit but the benefit of the people.

In turn that would probably come form taxes. So how is it different from Nationalized health care?

Seriously though..... ending immigration as a means of preventing would-be immigrants from adopting our wasteful and pollutive lifestyle is a little far-fetched don't you think? Leaving aside the fact that nations like India and China are having middle-class explosions in which untold numbers of humans are now (or soon will be) "balling out of control"..at least with respect to consumption...... worrying about immigrants seeking a better life in the US seems kinda silly.

Perhaps a better focus for our energies would be re-tooling what constitutes the American lifestyle.

After doing tons of research if think the best option is to do something like a National Co-op for those who don't have insurance, it doesn't hurt the current system and could be sustained by funding from different areas that aren't Government(as not to butt hurt the Right Wingers), people could pay into it
